if no one should be able to use it then everyone should be able to use it.

seriously: giving too much power to a word is absurd. especially when the word has been changed to a term of brotherhood.

Many words have their permissibility very much attached to situational context. This cannot be ignored.

Of course not but situational context is ignored far too often with the use of the N word and is instead defined by the user rather than the actual situation at hand. A user is not a situation.

Such a morally bankrupt way to make money, surely as "musicians" they could try making some actual "music"?

They make music and Mos Def is one of the most shining beacons of a good morality within the hip hop/rap community.

Just because you don't get it doesn't mean it's not music. It just means that you don't get it.

/by your standards, Jimmy Page is a "musician" because he ripped off all his music from the original blues artists

Peddling conspiracy theories with overly simplistic backing music and straight talk? Not to mention wishing death upon someone they do not like?

Oh, i can guarantee i "get it", perhaps more so than you do. Taking advantage of people's naiveity with baseless accusations and hate speech to make money.

I do not know of this "Jimmy Page" fellow and i do not know why you brought genre into this discussion. My criticism was directed at the lack of artistic value in the original piece, not the lack of artistic value in the genre.

It would sound like your beef is with the executives who allow Mos Def to wallow in what you perceive as ignorance rather than with Mos himself who, obviously, doesn't know any better.

Also, who are you to comment on artistic integrity? What do you create?

Beef? I don't have any "beef" with this song. I just think it's crap and lacking artistic value. What i expressed was called an opinion, a magical concept that the original poster was opening himself upto and expecting when he posted the video asking people to listen to it, analyse it and find meaning within it. I have posted the meaning i have taken from it.

skafather84 wrote:

I didn't realise people needed prior permission to comment on art that has been released into the public space by the artistic, stupid me! How do i go about getting permission to comment on this piece of "art"?

I don't understand the relevence of the question.
