I didn't know they were gone. I knew their numbers in the wild were less than 100,000 and the Ebola Virus was a major threat to them.

But the fact that the planet is becoming more inhospitable to life, I think humans have a few 1000 years at best.

Man's key skill is the ability to adapt thanks to his intellect. Without this, any number of species would have cleaned us off the genetic map eons ago.

However, we can only adapt if we can create what we need. If what we need is eliminated from nature, we go next.

the chinese river dolphin dissapeared some time ago. china saw it coming, but did nothing to stop it.

Maybe nothing. But they are more adaptable than a whole list of other creatures. If they die off, maybe one of the lesser creatures will have a more direct impact.

If they were to disappear there would still be hope for man, because humans are more in control of their own destinies than gorillas are. For better or for worse.

Is this thread an in-joke type thing? People are saying things that sound like memes so I'm not sure...

Or is it people who think evolution works like pokemon?

Or people who think that because gorillas and humans are both in the hominidae family we rely on one another?

We are quite a lot different to gorillas at this point, if their environment changes in a way that they can't handle they die out, we are great at making things though, and can even survive in extreme climates that would kill us quickly without specialised equipment. It depends what causes them to die out if you are thinking of how it will effect us.

If they die because the sun implodes, for example, we are pretty much screwed as well. But if they are killed off by a disease we may or may not be completely fine. You also have to keep in mind just how widespread humanity is compared to most other animals.
