This campaign against ACORN is the real problem here... I mean, why? Some openly say it's because they like foreclosures and the creation of ghost communities...
ACORN will always have the vulnerability in that it's a set of volunteers - it's difficult to maintain tight discipline through the ranks. ACORN says that this fake pimp and prostitute tried going to different ACORN offices and were differently-received. I think that they're asking ACORN to be like a military organisation with command and control and that the other offices should have been tipped off about this scam... I know that if those ACORN people did do that they'd scream "paramilitary assassins! New Brownshirts serving the New Hitler!"
Something about ACORN and the way it's depicted makes me think of a Rolling Stones song; Paint it Black...
I think the same could be said of planned parenthood and Layla. Trust me, I really try not to take the fundy right-wing attitude about it, I have perhaps some center-right leanings - more social liberal than social conservative. Still, I mainly posted this because 1) I know its a hot topic that no one else would have touched without the possible accusation of spreading right-wing hate fodder (probably a very good sign that it didn't happen - means people are looking at it as a story with two sides), 2). Its still important to note - like you said - the kinds of breakdowns that can occur in situations like this. ACORN is already dealing with inner city communities, they probably thought that they were being altruists by trying to at least steer-right what's already incorrigibly off the tracks; then again plenty of people still have a lot to say and a right to say it about bringing in children for 'tricks'. I think even an atheist can see that anything can be rationalized into some really stilted ethics, this is a pretty good example of something that society needs to figure out.
