I want this professor! I loved my Russian professor for calc 1. She was sooo much better than the prof I had for calc 2. He only wanted memorization (& never showed proofs or anything useful) while she actually expected us to stretch (& showed proofs, walked us thru a couple "stretchy" problems, etc.).

It's funny reading the description of the problems of Russia because it fits with others I've heard/read before...everyone was an engineer but no one was a philosopher so nothing was ever accomplished because both sides are needed to progress.

Unfortunately, here we don't have philosophers and are quickly losing engineers (at least well-trained, world-class ones). All we have are car salesmen and other scam artists. A fast track to war.

Dang that was a long read...;) Yeah, I have to agree with it a lot, because I switched from a BS to BA just because I'd have to take Business Calculus (I lasted a week. It was everything in high school that they said I'd never need to know...;) I'd still be in college if it was required...;)

I've heard from some professors how they just want to do research, and teaching is a distraction. True enough.

But lawsy, just give me some rules for math that work, it's all I ask...;)
