Just by the look, I've always thought that there were some Vikings genes on my father's side and some Mongolians ones on my mother's side.

But if it's true, that was long long ago, in the ancient times. For as long as it's possible to know, we're all from the same place.

I come from the ocean(s). Worry not, I mean you no harm, land-dwellers.

In all seriousness, both my direct maternal and paternal lines have lived exclusively in Belgium and Netherlands for at least 2 centuries.
Yeah, my family doesn't get out much, hehe.

Is Belgium so much different than Holland?

In that case, where did you thrive best, which country do you think has the best quality of life?

(Off-topic, but I would love to get an answer ).

The concept of a nation is only a few hundred years old so the whole concept is irrelevant.

On my mother's side, I am related to the Shanahans, which used to be a Dalcassian sept in Ireland. On my father's side, I am French. Generally, at least. Along with Scottish, Welsh, Italian, English, and a myriad of other tribes. So, basically, I am a descendant of Heinz 57. My soon to be wife is basically English and Jewish. So, any children we have will be 1/4th Jewish, 1/4 English, and 1/2 Ketchup.

It's has a few differences and deffinately similarities. Both are largely a result from being "claimed" by France and the Netherlands, we were pretty much passed around like a two-bit...person of questionable morals. So parts of both cultures stuck around.

As to where my family (I assume you didn't mean me, personally) thrived best, as far as living conditions go I'm fairly certain both countries are fairly equal. I've only been to the Netherlands a few times, I'm not much of a traveler, and aside from the outragous movie theatre prices (when I went) it all seemed very much the same. Well, appart from the incomprehensible dialect. hehe

I was born in the U.S. I think my heritage is mostly Celtic (Irish to be exact). I also have some French in me. My great-grandfather, who was orphaned as a child, didn't know whether he was Jewish or Mexican, so I am either 1/8 Jewish or 1/8 Mexican.

About 8 generations back on my father's side my ancestors were space travelers stranded on this planet. They were from the 4 th planet around the star that Earthlings call Sirius. By some odd coincidence of parallel evolution these ancestors were biologically compatable with homo sapiens so they stayed and intermarried since they were stuck here anyway.

I was born in Australia, my Father is Estonian and my Father's heritage is Estonian, my Mother is German and my Mother's heritage is French/German and Romanian.

My surname is German despite my Father being Estonian, this is in some part due to Estonia being aligned with Germany during WWII to fight the Russians... a lot of names were changed and, subsequently, family history was lost for a great many.

As some interesting trivia, my Maternal Grandmother's maiden name was Schott... anyone that has spent time in a laboratory will know what this means.

Both of my parents came to Australia in 1950 with their respective families. My Father was 10, and my Mother was 2.

I tell people that I am a mutt, as it bores them when I rattle off all of the places that my family comes from. I like genealogy... But since you asked :)

My maternal grandmother's side of the family would be Scottish royalty turned Irish peasant (there is a ruined Maxwell castle still somewhat standing after the Johnstones ran them down and out of Scotland). There is also some Dutch in there.

My maternal grandfather's side is not as easy to trace back. They would be Irish, English, African... they had been in the states for awhile and were Kentucky feuding hill folk which did not mesh well with the African bit as they tried to hide it and 'whiten up' back then.

My paternal grandmother's side is mostly English and Scottish with some from (my grandmother believed to be) Holland.

My paternal grandfather's side would be the most diverse as two of his ancestors were sailors and boat builders who traveled about and consequently picked up women from all around. On that side I have Scottish, Irish, French, Shawnee, Brazilian... Some came from Germany, Austria, England, Holland, Switzerland...

So yeah, I am a mutt.
