Simple enough question. If you are a Christian or non-Christian but believe in God, I invite your participation in this poll.

Marx had it right and Richard Dawkins just added logic and reason to the argument. Religion is the opiate of the masses.

I can't think of one logical reason to believe in a personal god who is omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent.

Yes, I am a Christian.

It's just asking whether people here are christians or not. It's not a debate about whether God exists or not, or any other weighty conversation. So long as that isn't what it becomes, I see no problem with it being here.

Who voted "Yes. But I'm not saved yet"? Isn't believing in Jesus supposed automatically save you or something?

I have my own beliefs about the nature of the universe. It would be inaccurate for me to say that I don't believe in any god at all, because my beliefs include a force greater than myself...or something. Maybe it's the clockwork of the universe. Maybe it's Brahma. I don't know, but it's something. Or maybe it's nothing. Or maybe it's both everything and nothing at the same time. I know what I believe, but I have no words for it. It's not a guy with a white beard, waiting to strike me down because I don't believe in a literal translation of a particular bit of mythology.

I believe that Jesus existed and had some pretty cool things to say about being excellent to each other. I don't know what his true story was, because I wasn't there. I've seen enough strange things in my life to believe that people may have actually witnessed him rising from the dead. Whether it actually happened or not, who am I to say? It's hard to imagine that the story hasn't been embellished a bit over two thousand years and many translations. Many versions of the story would not have survived.

I do not believe the stuff about eternal damnation, etc,. That strikes me too much as a human idea, designed to control people. Therefore, I don't believe in any need to be "saved" by subscribing to a particular belief.

If your question is "Are you a Christian"? Then my answer is "No. Why do you ask?"

In a word, no. Muslims believe there was a man named Jesus, and that He was a great prophet who worked miracles. But they don't ask Him to be their savior or Lord.

But that isn't in correlation with the topic's question then, the answer such a Muslim would pick would be a variation of "No".

I question whether Jesus Christ existed as an actual person, and I don't believe that the entity God exists.

I believe they are amalgamations of characters from fables, and that those fables were told so often and attempts were made to incorporate historical events into those fables that people started believing that the fables were true.

Well, I guess I'm sort of old fashioned, brought up to believe that religion generally should not be brought up in polite company, especially when it could lead to heated debate. When there's a place put aside for such discussion and/or debate, then it's probably best to put it there.

That said, for the record... While I believe that Yeshua of Nazareth may have existed, and that his teachings of love and tolerance for our fellow man should be universal, I disagree with many of the fundamentals of modern Christianity (both Catholic and Protestant). That doesn't mean I don't respect a person's right to believe in it, however. There are many Christians that I hold in high regard, despite our differences.
