Which economic system would be most consistent with the teachings of the Bible, or other religious text?

I've heard some religious leaders state that capitalism was evil. And, other religious leaders state that capitalism was exactly what God wanted.

Any opinions?

I would think that pure socialism would be the closest to godliness, where all people would be neither rich or poor, where everyone worked for the good of all others in a totally altruistic society, I can't imagine how such a society would work as humans are such an unruly species, each having their own agenda, some religions have based their foundations on altruism such as Christianity which fails like most other religions to live up to the words of its teachers. All that being said there can be no economic system that would be close to godliness, that is sort of over reaching for the human race, its sort of like a monkey trying to reach that piece of fruit on a far branch but its is always out of reach

Actually a modern pagan may worship any number of gods from any pantheon, from The Lord and/or Lady to Anubis to Thor. A Wiccan, however, is specific (originating with Gardener's teachings and ideas) and usually thinks of "god" as a duel entity or entities specifically called the Lord and Lady. Pagan is general, while Wiccan is specific (All Wiccans are pagan, but not all Pagans are Wiccan... )

Other.

NONE OF THEM.

Some want to say Jesus was a Socialist, but that is easily disproven.

Some want to say Jesus was a Capitalist, and there is grounds for that, but Capitalism is not "godly."

For any economic model to be "godly," GOD must be part of it. Pure Capitalism is not a problem if society is "godly" with a sincere desire to care for one another and to have charitable natures.

Pure Socialism would work if people were "godly" and greed was practically eliminated.

A military dictatorship wouldn't be so bad if the dictator was "godly" and benevolent.

In general, a theocracy where a select group present themselves as the voice of a god who cannot be contradicted, is a rather restrictive and most uncomfortable place to live.

I suppose that the case could be made that God's chief concern was selecting a few souls who believed in the story that his only begotten son died for their sins, so that these souls could be saved and spend eternity flattering and worshipping him.

So, the overall economic system would be a matter of pure indifference.

I'd say Capitalism with a LOT of voluntary charity.

Obviously a mockery of the Republican party, but a fun one!

Well considering that the bible tends to depict god as a malevolent, narcissistic, dictatorial, bastard, I would have thought a totalitarian dictatorship such as a blend of Khmerism (is there such a word), Stalinism, Nazism, with a decent sprinkle of Genghis Khan should fit the bill nicely. I really don't get the notion of god being a communist, communism requires a great deal of democratic interaction, something god is spectacularly bad at.
