Did you guys hear about this? He was doing standup at some comedy club when he was heckled by a black man, and he lost it and started ranting racial slurs and so on...

I'm sure you can find a news article on it if you do a google search.

Oh, and if you don't know who Michael Richards is, he is the one who played Kramer on Seinfeld. He also appeared on UHF and some other stuff... I guess his career isn't doing too good, and I suppose after this infamous rant he won't be doing much better.

After really understanding what racism is, its absolutely no different then mocking ANY other difference a person has (just more people can relate to it). If he was fat and Richards made comments about how disgusting he was, other fat people may be just as offended.

Since it was RACE he mocked, it got blown out of proportion. Had it been weight or eye colour or a scar, we wouldnt hear much about it.

Be offended by racism, racism will continue to exist. Laugh at it, well, watch it disappear.

I'm bald so I can either let bald jokes get to me or just laugh at it. I laugh at it. Its hard to insult someone who isnt insulted

I think one reason is based purely out of logical reasoning, you let it be offensive in your interpretation - yes people are different colours but thats no reason to mock or be offended - If you are offended that someone labeled you something you aren't then is that logical? People can claim who I am but only I know for sure.

The only black people I have anything against are the freaking Haitians, man. They're like a cancer. The ones born and bred here in the US, though? Well, unless they're hood rats, they're like any other sort of bloke, and even white guys can be hood rats. I don't think there's as much to race as meets the eye if you want to know the truth. It's never made much logical sense to me. What's wrong with just asking anybody, anywhere, to just be the best that they can possibly be? I dunno, but, anyway, people make too much of an issue of the racial thang either way, so why don't we leave it alone?

People use the least amount of logic when reacting. It is impossible for humans to rely purely on logical reasoning.

Then it should be logical to conclude that what is said during "reacting" has no merit since you were not thinking clearly. This would nullify the 'sueing' that may result.

While it may be close to impossible, I think the day will come where it won't be (different discussion) :wink:

I don't know if Richards is a racist or not--he does have some anger issues obviously--but what he said was really stupid.

These two guys who got heckled are now asking for a personal apology, which is really needed, and money. They probably shouldn't have asked for money though.

So what? He's a comedian, like me. We are expected to say extremely racist things that just happen to be funny. Carlos Mencia does this all the time yet nobody is crawling up his *** for it.

I think the difference, though, is that it was obviously not for comedic value. he had a crazy, angry outburst that was really shocking. though I think the guys who were yelled at are diminishing their credibility by claiming they should get money from him, because they were "afraid" and "trapped". :roll:

As awful as what he said was, I feel bad for anyone who says stupid things that ruin their life, since I have said plenty of stupid things that have semi-ruined my life.

Who knows...? Maybe he or someone in his family has been the victim of black on white crime? Not that it excuses what he said, but it might explain it.
