I think masses of socially progressive activists should come to the working class city of Winnipeg every year and admire it's progressiveness. IT'S ABOUT TIME A WORKING CLASS CANADIAN CITY FROM THE GREAT PROVINCE OF MANITOBA DEFY THE STEREOTYPES OF BEING CULTURALLY CONSERVATIVE AND FINALLY GAIN RECOGNITION FOR THIS WINNIPEG FIRST.

I'm curious to see which of these major North American cities you think was the first to elect an openly gay mayor. After two days, if nobody has answered correctly, I will give you the answer.

Yes it is Houston. Annise Parker. There have been other gay mayors too just not openly. *cough*edkoch*cough*

Actually, Portland, Oregon elected Sam Adams as mayor 4 years before Houston elected Parker. Houston is just the largest city in the U.S. to have elected an LGBT mayor.

Some people may think Harvey Milk was the first elected mayor. He was never mayor, George Moscone was the mayor of San Francisco at the time, Milk was the city manager, which isn't an elected position, but rather one that one would apply to, as with any other job.

I think Ed Koch was asexual, not gay.

Toronto, Ontario has a Gay mayorality candidate, and he is a strong contender. Elections are coming up.

No brainer. Glen Murray was elected in 1998.

...Visagrunt. Murray is no longer mayor, so I was thinking of a here and now candidate, and that is why I chose Toronto. Goerge Smithermann has a good chance.

But you are right. I do not think Harvey Milk was an actual mayor.

I heard that the reason that Moscone and Milk were assassinated was that Dan White (the assassin) had ties to the People's Temple (Jim Jones' cult), and was trying to draw attention away from the mass suicides in Guyana.

Now I think its time the Scranton, Pennsylvania of Canada gets respect for this immensely progressive move conducted in 1998.

Milk was not a mayor, he was a city Supervisor, by the way.
