that the word "homosexuality" is not translated the way it is today in the bible because back then greek/hebrew didnt have words for that? i would google it but im lazy so lets have this discussion here.

also why do christians cling to this and abortion as the cornerstones of almost every preaching show i see? they also like to talk about seed time and harvest but not like your grandmother is familiar with, the more money you send to them the more god will do for you. they call it a love gift but they send you some goofy tinker object so its more like a buyer/seller transaction and has nothing to do with god

The phrase for male homosexuality in Hebrew translates : if a man lie with a man as he would with a women...

It was a descriptive phrase, not a single word. The Jews picked of a word from the Greeks and used it in the Mishna to wit andrageynus --- or androgynous was we spell it. There was no single word in Hebrew for homosexual. If one does not have a handy word in one's own language for something, then borrow the word from another language.

In the play The Invention of Love the poet A.E. Houseman quips that "[homosexuality] is an abomination... It's half Latin and half Greek!"

The word is a portmanteau coined in the 19th century. Prior to this, there was no descriptive term, and the vocabularly was entirely deterministic. Terms like, "buggery," "sodomy," and, "gross idecency," referred to the sexual act, but not to the sexuality of the actors.

Oh my, you've figured out how TBN and Daystar TV work at times.

Money seeds - Love gifts - all in the name of God and not Las Vegas, Nevada.

Well, the next thing these churches will try to sell people are indulgences - for a certain amount of money, the churches will guarantee contributors will never go to heck.

There's no business like the non-profit business of religion.

There's no business like show business, it's the only business I know.

- (familiar song)

That's religious entertainment.

To get keep their non-profit religious organisation exemption from the IRS while still making huge profits. The prosperity gospel is one of the major scams of televangelists and mega-churches. Give money to the church, church profits, God will pay you back, if he doesn't, don't worry.. it's God, he's good for it, and if he doesn't what are you going to do, sue? All the good lawyers are in Hell.

Agreed. Giving to the church (tithing) IS a God-given commandment. A good preacher and church leader will not give in to misappropriating funds or skimming off the top for a salary bonus. People like Kenneth Copland and his ilk are in the BUSINESS of prosperity teaching. The church I work for has a budget that has to be approved by committee and voted on by the congregation. The church staff has the responsibility of being "stewards" of the money received. I won't say what my salary is, but I will say it's high enough for a pianist that I have to be diligent about showing up for every rehearsal, every church service, every funeral, and so on. They still pay me even when I take off because the few times throughout the year that I'm not available for services, I volunteer with an orchestra that performs at various churches throughout the state, and not having to worry about where money comes from allows me to participate in ministries like that which aren't necessarily directly a part of the church I work for. It also allows me to spend a lot of time at church doing things within the music ministry, and I'm currently writing arrangements for handbell duo and taking time in my workday to rehearse. My Sunday evening obligations are limited through most of the year, so this time I'm looking for other ways I can be active in instrumental music ministry without being tied to my church campus (giving concerts, maybe even taking this handbell thing on tour if it works out). It also reflects well on my church because people are going to ask where I'm from and what I do. Because the church supports me, it's only right that I work hard to really say that I've earned their support.

When I was first hired, I first approached the church pointing out that I'd subbed on occasion for Wednesday evening Bible study and that I was willing to commit to it full-time as a volunteer. When they told me what my salary was, I nearly fainted. I asked why so much, and they said that "it's hard enough to keep good piano players in our church. We want to get the best people in for the job and give you every reason to stay!" I never thought this would be tested, but one day I was approached during a different gig about playing for a Catholic church. The woman who approached me said she'd pay me more and she'd pay with her own money if she had to. I politely declined, but I was thinking to myself "You can't afford me."

I don't know why, but money just does horrible things to people, even the GOOD Christians. Despite having a very generous church gig, I don't really make much money, which is just the nature of making it as a musician. But I really would have done it for free if they couldn't pay me. Most churches really can't pay their musicians, and that line of work is generally handled by volunteers. I'm a Christian, I've tried to tithe, but no matter how much or little I give, I've gone from living in a spacious, 5-bedroom house in the city to a 3-bedroom trailer out with the rest of the trash of society. I was never led by God or church or anyone else that this lifestyle would ever be easy. I don't resent it whatsoever. The possibilities are always open that things could change if that's what God wants, and all things considered I and my family are financially better off than we were a year ago. We don't NEED money, and that's not why we continue in our faith. I absolutely detest "blab it and grab it" theologians because no matter how much faith those people have that follow them, they will always be disappointed when God doesn't instantly heal them. They'll always cry out to God wondering why all the giving and believing is never enough. They can't accept that their situation, perhaps, is given to them for a good reason, and these "preachers" will have them believe that God has given up on them and abandoned them because they don't have enough money. I sometimes wonder if God reserves a special place in Hell for those false teachers.
