Sounds like you've been reading too many Dan Brown novels if you think that having your browsing, e-mail, downloads, and anything else that goes through the internet, monitored by the US government is cool.
It's a joke. What I was actually trying to ask is what's the deal? Just to monitor stuff through Google?
Ahh. Well, no one really knows what the real is. The official announcement mentioned the NSA helping Google secure their network - depending on how that's set up, it could mean that the NSA has direct access to any information it wants since it's in charge of security. I've also seen mentions of "data sharing".
But it seems pretty obvious that there has to be some information-related reason why the organisation in charge of monitoring everything has a deal with a company who's mission is to index everything.
