If God is an idea, then it can be stolen. Or implanted.

Agree. It's my understanding that today - year 2010 - neuroscience does not yet know exactly where letters and numbers are stored on a neuron so the idea of stealing and implanting engrams is not yet here (along the lines of using a computer chip to download information into a human brain or upload information from the human brain. The idea is present in some science fiction but it is not yet science fact to my knowledge).
Theoretical goal: To be able to change the personality and IQ of Homer Simpson with a simple computer program (perhaps designed by his daughter, Lisa, and his son, Bart)(...just kidding a little...)

Engram - A lasting mark or trace. The term is applied to the bioelectrical trace associated with storage of a memory in the nervous system.

Can spoken or written ideas be easily stolen? Yes.
Can ideas be systematically implanted by intentional brainwashing by political authorities (think country of China) and/or religious authorities (think Mormonism, Islam, Scientology, European Catholicism, the Democrat Party, the Republican Party, the Green Party, Buddhism, and so on)? Yes.
Can some radio talk show hosts/guests try to implant political ideas into the brains of radio listeners/TV viewers?
Yes.
Think Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Obama, Bush, Jr., etc.
Think cereals aimed at children, toys aimed at children, movies aimed at viewing audiences, etc.
