i'm a total misanthrope. anyone else?

an island surrounded by titanium walls and miniguns every 50 yards sounds appealing

im in an especially s**tty mood right now..........

but really ever since two years ago next month, i just haven't enjoyed being around people. i distrust the human race and society, and i can feel the hatred starting to swell.

Not me. In my experience, the vast majority of people are basically good (I've never met anyone I dislike), and I don't think it's particularly productive to approach society with an attitude of hatred and distrust. In fact, it's probably actively counter-productive since it's usually a 'self-fulfilling prophecy' type of thing.

I don't hate people...

...I just hate being within a two mile radius of people.

nice tensu.

hmmm... that's interesting. my experience has been pretty different.

and you're right, it's not at all productive... and it's certainly not fun to feel like you're on a different planet from everyone else 24/7 (aspergers helps out with that too of course). i think the two (my aspergers and my misanthropy) are connected, because i probably wouldn't be this way if i hadn't hung out with misanthropes who acted on their feelings (manipulation/hustling), which i was unable to read until it was too late. getting better at figuring out who's sketchy and who's not tho...:)

wow.....thats more information than i give to practically anyone......

QFT although it isn't much that I hate people as it is I wish people knew I didn't hate them. My problem evolves around not being able to smile or seem "friendly".

It is a good bit of a chore to force smiles and laughs and (at least in my case) try to feign interest in things, isn't it?

It's not that I hate people so much as I hate how basic and plain most people are.

Yes they are. But at the same time they can be good solid "salt of the earth" people who are kind and loyal.

Until they know that you believe something that is very far outside of the norm of society but is reasonable when educated on the matter. Like with prostitution or drug prohibition or abortion.

It's why I know to keep most of my views toned down or just silent in general. I understand that the vast majority of people are "good" in the sense of well-meaning but I also know that most people act on a much more base level.

i am afraid the word misanthropy describes me. people seem to have more capacity to sympathize then other animals do, but they do so conditionally.

but i am not a true misanthrope since those with no faith in other people are resigned to character deficiencies in people. therefore the real misanthopes are "theorists" such as psychoanalysts, evolutionary psychologists, essentialists, and other pseudointellectuals.

the diverse group of thinkers that embrace "human nature" all seem to argue the following things.

1. people are naturally greedy, therefore anyone who does not trample someone else does not surrender to their basest impulses, and is therefore a sissy. people have no rights, even to life, because the "strong" must replace the weak.

2. people are social beings just like wolves  therefore repression, discrimination, and mob mentality are "natural" therefore even more of these interactions should occur than already exist.

3. anyone who does not follow their "nature" is abnormal  they must be forced, sometimes through questionable medical intervention, to behave "naturally".

4. people have higher brain functions, but these are "maladaptive" because they hinder "natural" processes and encourage rebellion against "natural" social establishments.

5. all people are created the same...except certain groups are innately different and therefore inferior. differences between groups are cut and dry because "nature" engineers everything down to an exact science.

Yup. Sometimes just the thought of having to "fake it" sucks all the air out of me and makes me want to avoid people. It helps to have someone who can make me genuinely laugh. Otherwise I find myself stuck in a daze, with my mind stuck on something else. It's hard not to have a negative feeling towards people when I see them all having this energy and it just falls flat on me.
