What a clueless twit. Her beliefs are about as informed as the eugenics movement was around the turn of the century.

Ayn Rand is overrated.

People want a "scholarly" justification for their own selfishness and she provided one. I have a friend who is really into Rand and asked me to read a short book of hers, I think it was I. The characters were one dimensional to my no great surprise.

Nobody has any reason to be their brother's keeper? How about being a human being and having feelings?

I have been trying to read Atlas Shrugged for years, and never got more then a 100 pages into her arrogant mindless twaddle, I have read some supposedly difficult books and have gone back and re read them, this book overly dense the chapters seem to run on and on

I'm not sure man would have survived as a species if not for altruism.

I really don't understand why selfishness has to be promoted as an ideology when it's something that already occurs naturally. Human beings are mainly driven by self-interest, I get it already. So what. Nobody needs to be told to look after their own self-interest.

It's also part of human nature to work together and look out for each other. You could say that this is also self-interest because people generally feel better about living in a fair and just society. Yet Randians think this aspect of human nature needs to be stamped out. On what basis?

Not likely. People have no fangs, tusks, claws, antlers or horns and we can't run fast. We need temwork to defend ourselves.

The term altruism has several meanings. The meaning vary anywhere from rational concern for the welfare of others to total self denigration and self sacrifice. Clearly the inclination to co-operate in self defense and obtaining food for the group is a survival promoting characteristic. Our social nature is a plus up to a point.

No he wasn't. His name is Randal, Rand is just short.

Hand of Rand topic

A few years ago, there were two memebers who posted quite frequently here about Ayn. One was very articulate on why she worshiped AR, hated communism and kept screaming about her rights and her property being violated by the likes of my ideas. :P

She was so angry I thought I would get banned if she complained to the mods. 8O

It was a useful lesson, though, in dealing with other people and thier moodiness.
