OK. Here goes nothing...
The thing is, I just recently found out that I was born a medium (this runs in my mother's side of the family), while this ability is dormant and I have not actually seen or communicated with spirits since I was a small child, I REALLY need your help! I am well aware that the bible forbids communication with the dead, and this is why I am asking you for assistance. If God prohibits communication with spirits other than testing them, then why would he give you, if not simply allow you to have, the ability to do the very thing you are not supposed to be doing? Am I cursed or blessed? Am I an abomination in God's eyes? How does he view me because of this "sixth sense"? I have read certain passages on the subject of mediums and communicating with spirits, but they do not seem to say much about those who were BORN capable of such things, and they don't really seem to answer my question of "why?". I am turning to you guys for your opinions on the matter, not because I think anyone who replies to this knows more than, or as much as, God himself.
PLEASE believe me when I say this and do not assume I am a "wacko" or "looney-tunes". I really need some help.
OK, guys, hold on...
I don't know about being "born" a medium, that seems a bit fishy to me. What I will say, in regards to Christianity, is we are all born with a sinful nature. So that could predispose us to all sorts of behaviors and things the Bible condemns. That might even include demon possession, don't you think? While the OT demonstrates that persons could conceivably act as mediums, the NT demonstrates that such CAN be aided by demon possession. Assuming you're serious, consider seeing some sort of Christian spiritual advisor (priest/pastor/rabbi/etc.) about exorcism. It could be as simple as invoking the Lord's name, might involve laying on hands, or might require earnest, sincere prayer.
If you think I'm joking, I'm only as serious as you are. The main thing is, whether being a medium due to an inherently sinful predisposition to communing with the dead, or spirit possession, is that such things are overcome through faith. If you are adept at speaking with the dead, simply stop it and pray, as in the Model Prayer, that God will "lead" you "not into temptation." That's not a guarantee of ease in your journey, but it's a good first step.
You are NOT an abomination. If you recognize that you are a sinner deserving of death and that Christ died to atone for your sins, you need not be concerned with such things. If you believe, you have nothing to worry about. But because of the gift of eternal life, it's likely you don't want to engage in behavior contrary to Biblical teaching.
