The Catholic Church has exhausted itself. The scale of the child abuse within the church happening in every country where it is located reveals the church is institutionally and deeply wrong. The Catholic Church is a Stalinist organisation - while pretending to be there to help the poor and disadvantaged it really is a platform for dictators - priests - to tell people what to do and to abuse them.

Stand up to your oppressors, Catholics. If you won't the rest of us will. It's time to seize all the world's Catholic churches. Let's seize their useless dens of iniquity and antiquity and turn them into schools, hospitals, community centres, homeless hostels, hotels, bars, restaurants - anything but the useless wastes of space they are now.

So replacing Catholic demagoguery with yours improves things in what way?

Point well made. I concede defeat in this debate.

Be sure that the First Amendment is repealed before you try this nonsense. See how far that would get.

In fact, churches--and not just the Roman Catholic church--are being forced to dispose of assets to meet the judgements and settlements for victims of clerical abuse.

The Diocese of the Cariboo in the Anglican Church of Canada declared bankruptcy in 2001. A Sobey's supermarket now stands on the land once occupied by the Mount Cashel Orphanage in Newfoundland that was run by the Christian Brothers and razed after it was closed in 1990.

Litigation may well prove to be far more effective than dictat in accomplishing your wish.

I don't see why we just don't tax churches. As far as I am concerned, they are all businesses at the best of times. And as businesses, they should be taxed. Especially since many of these churches now have coffee shops and book stores.

I have never had a point so unequivocally conceded. I can't decide if you are playing me or I should complement you. It is rare to see such a candid response. I find it refreshing and hope I can reciprocate.

Damn liberal. Taxing businesses is bad for the economy.

So we should just not tax anyone and drive on... dreams? Use dreams to put out fires? We need taxes for many things, it's sad that sometimes the taxes can get high, but if you want to live in a first world nation, that is something you have to put up with.

I couldn't tell if you were being facetious or exasperation with "liberals" and their "agenda". Ah, the fun of Asperger's.

The Italian Catholic Church could be asked by the US Supreme Court to convert from a non-profit, tax-exempt organization to a for profit organization and also rename itself a political party and drop the notion of being a foreign Church from Rome, Italy.

The Italian Catholic Church tried to stop President Barack Obama from speaking at Notre Dame University in Indiana, USA, because President Obama is not an Italian Catholic.
