some qualifications are in order:
not the fear that someone will not care for your children
not the fear that those still alive will miss you
not the fear of physical pain leading to death

if so, why?

I'm not really afraid of death, I just hate pain. But it'd suck for my life to end before I was ready for it to end, before I'd done what I wanted to do (or at least had the chance to). I'd happily die for something I believed in.

I believe that I'm going to heaven when I die so therefore I am not afraid of death.

I'm not afraid. I would like to die as quickly as possible, and have a few suicide plans buried away for a rainy day if I ever figure my time is up. And no, I'm not religious at all. I believe when you die, that is it. But there have been times that I have wished for an 'it' to come.

Me too. I'm tired.

It would be more correct for me to say that I fear oblivion rather than death. If there is an afterlife (and I'm an agnostic, so I'm not sure), I wouldn't fear it, but as I'm not sure, I fear the possibility of oblivion after death, that all that I am would cease to exist.

I am not afraid of death (there is no sensible reason to be afraid of it), but I certainly do try to avoid it.

Death is something to dislike or perhaps even hate, not something to be afraid of.

I am afraid of going through pain or discomfort when i die, not the actual death. One of my uncles died in his sleep... if i really have to go that seems like the best way, but hopefully not for a long time. I'll (hopefully) go very peacfully in my sleep.

No. Not at all. I'm actually more afriad of not going like I want to. (I want to go down fighting.)

How bad can the pain get, anyway?

Actually being a Christian and reading books on people who have had Near-Death-Experiences, I must say that,no, I do not fear death.

I am not afraid of death. I am extremely curious about what it's like.
(Me: "I wonder what red frogs and peanut butter taste like? (tastes) Hmmm... not bad... I wonder if I could play the violin (learns violin... Hey, this is fun!... I wonder how much it hurts when I shut my head in the cupboard... OW!!... ok, quite a lot... I wonder where my shoes are... oh well, it didn't matter anyway... I wonder what it's like to die (picks up sharp knife).... ok, that's probably not the best idea...")

Not in the slightest. Afraid of pain whilst dying, but not of death itself. I don't believe in a 'hell' - but then I don't believe that we'll all go to Heaven if we're good - I believe that only 144 000 Anointed Ones will go to Heaven, to rule as kings and priests over the Messianins Kingdom. The rest of us are conscious of nothing at all, to be resurrected at an appropriate time. (Except those who have sinned extremely badly and not repented - they'll ultimately just be completely destroyed. But not tortured - they'll just never live again.)

That's what I believe :)

Hey, that was an excellent, concise explanation of the Jehovah Witness perspective on death.
(don't know why I had to comment on that. Maybe because so many people can't really explain their religious position. They say they "just know".)

Wow, thanks - I've never written anything concise before! (I think I completely mangled it on the other thread where I tried to explain though. Oops.)

Not afraid of death at all. Have lots to do, so no hurry to get there, but noway am I afraid of death, and I was put to the test on that one. I just let God be in control. No worries here.
