I have been seeing many articles about how people are saying that the end of the world is coming either in 2011 or 2012. I was just curious how many people think that this will actually happen.

P.S. - end of the world means the death of all people and all organisms on earth, not the "death" of America due to politics or money or anything.

I think scientists generally speculate that the earth has another few billion years left, until the sun dies which will in turn cause the other planets to die.

These articles you have been reading have no basis in fact or in scientific hypothesis. Some time in 2013 we will talk of sunrise and sunset.

Insufficient data.

Can't happen too soon.

I actually didn't hear about the 2011 thing until last week. I was reading Reader's Digest and there was an advert that claimed that "the bible guaranteed that the world would end May 21, 2011." Funny thing is, is that the guy originally "GUARANTEED" that the world would end in Sept 1994. When that didn't happen, he changed his 'calculations'

Whoever has said that clearly has not read his Bible.

Matthew 24:36 'No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven'

Whether the Mayan calendar or the Bible or some other primitive nonsense is used, gullible people can be persuaded by almost anything. The rising sea will no doubt destroy many f the current populated areas and the overpopulated Earth will cause horrible misery as areas for fertile farming disappear in the next few decades but there will be enough warning in that time so that sensible people can safely commit suicide before the misery reaches them.

I've read the Bible all the way through and studied it carefully. The Bible gives no clear indication of when the universe was created and only a FEW clues of the state of affairs at the end.

So based on my reading of the Bible, I've concluded this: I have no idea WHEN the end will come. But I know for a FACT that as of today we are one day closer to the end than we were yesterday.

The Bible gives no date for the end of the world, just what will happen a stark difference from the Mayan Calendar.

I think the end of the human race will occur before the end of the world (planet). Our species won't live as long as the dinosaurs, not even close.

Carefully avoiding a flip and inappropriate response -

I have been waiting for California to fall into the abyss since about 64. Not yet.

Did you actually say "safely" commit suicide? Just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly...

No doubt many will die, but enough will live so that our species does not become extinct.

That last option.. "Death Of America.". I'll vote for that one as beginning a Brave New World.
