I'm just going to shut my mouth and ask that you read this short story. No quotes, because I dont know what to say about it that wouldnt be a spoiler.

Uncanny-balism story topic

Very looooooooong story, a lot of dialogue to get through. The ending is creepy, and fitting. Everyone's hell is certainly different.

I am not sure of Wilson's religious beliefs(or nonbeliefs) but it is comforting for me to realize that I will not remember the moment of my death, no matter how it happens. That will be left for the living to sort through. :P

Thanks, Fuzzy. :D

I have thought of the concept some time ago so it wasn't particularly startling but it's nicely written.

I enjoyed reading that; thanks for posting the link. I purposely didn't read the above comments so as not to spoil the story. Though I have an uncanny feeling I've read it before around forty years ago.

Although it is comforting to think of one's consciousness sailing on infinitely through death it is a weak attempt to make the idea of an afterlife conform to scientific-theoretical standards rather than the cloud cuckoo land of standards of religions. The concept that we exist as an individual spread through many parallel universes leaves open the question of what about all those consciousnesses that inhabit the other bodies. Are they mental blanks waiting for the wandering consciousness to pop over and take control after one death in that one world where awareness takes place? I cannot see much logic in the concept.

Its all just wishful thinking. The 'afterlife' is people's memory of you and whether you had a positive or negative impact on their lives

Always useful to hear the voice of experience.

Cautionary tale topic

There are morals to this story for the religious and atheists: Be careful what you wish for, and relief that Wilson's story is fiction.

Not only is there no memory of one's death, but there is no memory of one's life either.

Okay. I tend not to follow links, but I just ended about two months of dipping into scifi. When it WAS sci fi, I used to do a lot of it, but not often these days.

So I went. I read it.

Truth to tell, I do not really get it.
