Religious iconography can stir something in you, whether you hold a faith, or not. This is because it can work on a subconscious level. What stirs you.

I find the Virgin Mary like images of Guanyin make me feel peaceful and make me want to be tolerant:

On the opposite end, I like images of Santa Muerte, for some reason, or another. Yes I know she's like the favourite icon of Mexican gangsters, and generally nasty sorts of people. I just find something much more ancient in her than Mexican drug gangs - she's really like an Aztec goddess. Maybe I'm just a closet goth:

What's interesting is that Chinese men get tattoos of Guanyin and Mexican men get tattoos of Santa Muerte. There are probably a few tattoos of the Madonna around, too. I think there's a need for some form of protective female figure common to all humans. I think it's especially strong in men, but also strong in me.

However, on a similar note of liking skeletal deities, I also find Baron Samedi/Maman Brigitte images powerful:
