In America, there exists television commercials for a breakfast cereal called "Shredded Wheat." Each little piece features frosting on one side and no frosting on the other. These commercials show that people are divided. Some people like the sugary side, and others like the unfrosted side.

The same thing happens with beer. It is assumed that half of the country likes it, because it tastes great. The other half supposedly likes it, because it's less filling.

Those beer people probably like the unfrosted side of Shredded Wheat, but I seriously doubt that people carve their breakfast bits in half.

It is "Frosted Mini-Wheats" that has frosting.

Regular "Shredded Wheat" has none. (I eat the stuff every day)

Well, then, the guy I heard this from, from an interview with a band, must think he knows everything. Whatever, it's not really my joke. It just sounds so amusing, that it caught my attention.

Reminds me of Dr. Seuss's The Great Butter Battle....

See, this a reason is why societies work better when they're smaller.

There are strengths and weaknesses to societies of different sizes. You are right that smaller societies are more cohesive, but what they gain in cohesion they lose in resources.

Smaller societies can also be more judgmental, which is why I prefer a more anonymous large society.

True, but aren't people in large societies judgemental? It kinda feels like people are judgemental period.

Also, with large societies, yes, there's more resources, but most of them are gained by exploiting smaller societies. So someone's ALWAYS gonna be exploited unless we all either:

A) Start being concerned with compassion for once,

Or B) All become smaller, fully-functioning societies.

Actually I doubt either one is at all likely, and even then I don't think that things would go the way they should.

Ah yes, the nation (or the world) is divided into

People who like things simple, black and white, right or wrong, true or false, good or evil, allies or enemies.

And the rest of us.

It's like George Dubya - "you're either with us or against us"
Um, no George - life is not that simple just because you are.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count and those who can't.

And philosophers.

Wow! True aspie black-and-white thinking. I believe it has to do with neurology, so no matter how hard we try to understand the gray areas, and we do know they exist, we still always fall back on black-and-white, binary-type thinking. It makes life so easier when we categorize people into neat categories, and then we can determine who we like and who we hate. We just have to look at the signs when we get to know people.

I'll tell you, though, George Dubya ... He does a terrible job at trying to be aspie! You can't be aspie, Dubya, when you want to be the center of the party! Sorry ...
