Why does the US Supreme Court allow the Christians in the USA to badmouth Judaism aka the Pharisees / the Sadducees / the scribes of Judaism in their reading of New Testament scriptures? Isn't this hate speech along the lines of how Martin Luther King, Jr. - people of color - were treated? Should the US Supreme Court view the Christian treatment of the Pharisees and Sadducees of Judaism as hate-speech and outlaw/fine USA Christians who try to convert members of Judaism to Christian denominations? Your view? - Politics, Philosophy, Religion

How does reading amount to badmouthing?

Ah, somebody went to Mass and heard the Gospel reading this past Sunday! :D Incidentally, there aren't any more Sadducees. Haven't been for nearly 2,000 years. It's sad, you see, but their movement collapsed with the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. Don't think the Pharisees, as a named group, are around anymore either.

pgd - I usually am leaving your Knock Knocks alone, but in this case -

You are badmouthing them just as much - their spiritual descendants, that is. Because they are very much in our midst.

The Pharisaic tradition has morphed into mainline Rabbinical Judaism. It is still with us.

The actual pharisees who are with us to day the the biblical literalists, found frequently in evangelical and fundamentalist Christianity.

Yes - with the permanent loss of the Temple - and again yes. There's nothing quite so "pharisaical" as a hardcore Calvinist and/or fundamentalist. (Catholicism has them too, but they tend to circle the wagons concerning internal affairs, usually some aspect or other of Vatican II.)
