ship? :chin:

To where would I be deported? Would I be able to survive on my wits and rugged handsomeness without the support of a State?
Freedom to wander the earth as a dashing vagabond, cunningly evading those who would keep me from the borders of their illegitimate lands?

You can't renounce a citizenship of a country if that's the only citizenship you have.

You'd find it impossible to leave Canada even if you could do such a thing. All other nations insist on proof of residency(or refugee status) before they let you enter. You'd have a hell(read that as near impossible) of a time claiming refugee status from Canada.

You'd be about 99% less cool...

Ship of foolishness topic

I do not think you would even be taken in by Iceland, as Bobby Fischer was.

Marry someone from a European country, go live there, later get divorced and then you will have a lot of countries from which to choose where to live and work. Stay handsome, you will need it. :P

I'll have to quote my first Economics tutor about that (A former Chilean Political TV journalist with Anti-Pinochet views & an Economics PhD).

Quote:
In my opinion the Canadians and the British have the best democratic & human rights freedoms in the world.

Now thats coming from someone who suffered the abuses of Pinochet as that tutor now is a citizen of the UK..

That, and if it's anything like the USA, the US government won't recognize an renunciation of citizenship until you have citizenship elsewhere. They don't like to give up their slaves.

There are travel documents for stateless persons, they're called Certificates of Identity. However, they are only issued to habitual residents of the country of issue.

The only effective way to renounce would be to successfully make a refugee claim in another country. Even then, Canada won't recognize a renunciation in the absence if another citizenship.

I remember a book called "Man Without a Country", about an American who more-or-less renounced his citizenship, and was compelled to spend the rest of his life on ships.

To put it in the context of the quote, it was from over ten years ago & the tutor making a choice where to safely life as Canada & the UK where his top two choices. Plus to add there a large Chilean community in the UK, Merseyside had a big Latin American community.
