Is anyone a member of or have any experience with this denomination? I've been doing some research on different denominations and this seems like the best fit, but I haven't gotten up the courage to actually attend a service yet. I was raised in a Baptist church, so that's what I know and what I'm comfortable with. I would stay with the same church, but 1) their college ministry is less that stellar and the next option is a single's group, AKA "hurry up and get married," and 2) I'm looking for a church that is more accepting of all types of people regardless of disability or sexual orientation. I feel like there's a bit of a pity vibe for people with disabilities at that church. Also, as a person of a non-traditional sexual orientation (asexual) I want to get away from the unspoken "When are you going to get married?" and also want to belong to a church that is accepting of LGBT's. If anyone knows of another denomination that sounds like a good fit, I'm open to suggestions. Disclaimer: I don't want to argue with anyone over theology. Thanks :D

It's one thing for a church to let gays come to the service and hear the sermon, which is condoned in the Bible (the church in Corinth had a lot of ex-gays), but a church that fully approves of homosexuality and allows people to be full members while in a homosexual relationship is unscriptural. That's not my opinion, look it up.

There is no scriptural reason for anyone in any church to have a problem with asexuality. There were a lot of people in the bible who never married and didn't have sexual relationships. 1 Corinthians explains that there is nothing wrong with staying single/asexuality.

The problem with asexuality is society's. When people find out you aren't in a relationship and aren't planning on getting into one, they have become conditioned to think you are gay or some other kind of sexual deviant. In that respect, it's kind of like as if society never graduated middle school.

Many theologians believe the church in Corinth had many members who had been temple prostitutes of both sexes. The homosexuality in this particular case may have been a reference to the man on man prostitution that had occurred there.

No, but I just did a search and found this:

Quote:
Further, Disciple statements with regard to homosexuality are equally disturbing. I have heard it expressed in our meetings that the Disciples General Assembly has not taken a position on ordination of homosexual ministers; that decision is left up to the regions. Yet I wonder if the Disciples would do the same if the issue were racism. Although there are certainly New Testament texts that teach against discrimination, racism is not identified as a sin in the New Testament, while homosexuality is. How would the Disciples respond if a region decided that racism was fine as long as it was practiced responsibly, and then allow the racists to define what it is to “practice it responsibly.”
(emphasis added)

That was written/published in 2001, and I have no idea what actual policy might be in place anywhere today.

Overall, you would just have to go visit a given assembly in order to see what its members are actually like.

I have no experience with Disciples of Christ churches. Most Congregationalist churches (United church of Christ) are open and affirming. I have no experience with them either.
