I'm just curious...has there ever been any 1 on 1 debates, with a "referee" on WP?

It's probably not trivial to stop people butting in whenever they choose.

True, although it could be achieved via PM, with each debater (debatee) sending a copy of the PM to a moderator/commentator. The debate could then be posted.

Debates are a waste of time.

I think most of the PPR regulars think the same, as it's mostly just opinion flinging.

Could give it a go. I wouldn't say that the mods need any more work though, so find someone trusty, if that's necessary, to officiate. Maybe Lee or Philologos would be interested in reffing.

Bare-knuckle.

It depends, sometimes a debate can highlight the fallacies in a particular argument very well, although it almost never changes the debaters own views.

lol I have a few of them in university with friends over a few pints in campus pubs mostly on philosophy & football.
I was a member of my university's debating society but personal I found formal debates lacked spontaneity & humour.
That's why I love the informal ones especially the beer fuelled ones.

I've been trying to think of a way to do something like this for a while, I just can't think of how to make it work within this forum's software. I2 has their call-out and arena forums that function somewhat like what's being proposed, though in more of a one on one flamethrowing sort of way.
