Note: not to be confused with Aaliyah the artist.

For those of you who are Jewish, how would you feel about moving to Israel in the next few years? Assume you can settle in any city you choose, and the Absorption Center (pretty much an immigrant assistance agency) will provide you with basic assistance during the first few months, with things like finding work, getting an apartment, familiarizing yourself with your city, meeting new friends, and learning Hebrew. Since Israel has an extensive transportation network even in small towns and rural areas, no car is necessary. So would you make aliyah? If you feel like it, post what city you would settle in, and give a brief reason.
(This post refers specifically to Israel proper, not West Bank or Gaza.)

If you have no particular opinion, feel free to post, but please don't vote. It would be fun to get an accurate count about who would or wouldn't take the plunge.

I couldn't do it now. I just can't handle what people are doing to eachother over there right now. It depresses me. I'm partly of jewish descent but don't hate any group of people. I can't see any sense in all those children dying like that. I had been interested in seeing the holy land at one time.

Making aliyah right now seems too impractical, but I find myself daydreaming about it when I'm bored. I traveled to Israel six months ago on a tour, and everything seemed so nice: standing in front of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, floating in the Dead Sea, watching the gorgeous scenery of Galilee, walking on the busy streets of Tel Aviv, and dancing with friendly Israeli girls in Eilat while under the influence of Absinthe. All that, and more. Everywhere I went, everything seemed so amazing, and I had a gut feeling that I could be happy living there.

Here's a related question. If you did make aliyah at any time, what was it like? What was going through your mind during the first few hours in your new home?
