The population of the U.S. is about 300,000,000 of which 6,000,000 are Jewish. Now here (at last) is The Question: What benefits do the 294,000,000 non-Jewish Americans derive from the U.S. support of Israel?

Anyone care to venture some guesses?

Jesus will love them more?

It has to do with keeping the only stable country in the region (that also has similar values as the United States) safe. They are our only reliable ally in the Middle East, they've helped us enormously in tracking down the terrorist groups responsible for 9/11 behind the scenes.

The actual hijackers are dead, the ones that planned it are mostly dead and behind bars. Israel has been helping identify the terror groups' financial networks, been providing lots of information that have helped us catch a lot of these psychos.

Israel also singlehandedly destroyed Saddam's 1980s nuclear program timing it precisely enough so that there were under 20 deaths and it was just before the reactor was online (which would have caused a nuclear fallout), now that is timing.

Also, Israel makes parts for some US fighter aircraft, specifically the F-16.

Probably several factors. I'm not going to get into what side one ought to take in the conflict, since frankly I wouldn't presume to know enough to make a judgment about which side is less wrong than the other.
But I will say this, with very little certainty but a hunch: One factor could easily be the Apocalypse. From what I understand, a lot of Americans, and a considerable chunk of Americans with a considerable amount of power, believe that certain places in the area will play an important role in the second (technically supposedly third?) coming of the aforementioned Jesus character, and because of this, these politically empowered believers have an interest in setting things up so that the supposed apocalypse will turn out in a way that would benefit them or fall in line with what they believe.
Does this make sense? Um, no. But it's probably what's going on in the heads of at least a few of the people "in charge". Not in a conspiracy sense, but in a sense of a few people with influence sharing certain beliefs and acting accordingly.
Judaism and Christianity share certain elements. Importantly some history, mythology and locations therein. Their interests align occasionally.

Not saying this is the whole reason, just one possible factor.

Our ideals lived out, economic development, animated by idealism, and for the sake of peace. They are an extremely helpful ally in the region.

This is why every developed country gives foreign aid. There is no benefit to any American with regards to sending 10 billion to the continent of Africa.

Our economy is valued at above 50+ trillion dollar. We spend around 13 Trillion a year. 3 Trillion or more of which is through government spending. 25-30+ billion of which goes to foreign aid. 3 billion of which goes to Israel and 1.5 to Egypt.

Even if there had never been any terrorists, I think this is the true reason. Why do we care so much about having a true ally in the region? Oil. We get so much oil from there but let's face it, Saudi Arabia is frenemies at best. They hate the U.S. with an intense passion but love the oil $$$$$$$. Having an actual friend right there instead of just frenemies makes this arrangement (slightly) less dangerous.

Quite frankly, we kinda like the Heebs, and the Pals would just as soon shoot us as look at us.

On another level, Americans like to win, and they would rather sink half their country into the Pacific than face losing, even if all they would be losing would be a pitiful scrap of miserable soil in the middle of the rockiest and most totally useless part of the Middle East, over a people who don't even have much in common with us.

Mostly, it's just the Heebs share our values, and the Pals don't. When the chips are down, we help the ones who come from our cave.

Didn't you answer this yourself in another thread? We get some useful intelligence cooperation, and a location that we can sometimes use for basing.

Whether that is enough to make up for the disadvantages of being hated by most of the region is questionable.

Now, if Israel would unilaterally destroy Iran's nuclear program for good for us, that would definitely make our support worthwhile.

I would point out that Israel also helps us by producing parts for some of our military fighter jets.

Also the United States does actually owe the Israelis money.

With the international or foreign debt of the United States running between $3 trillion and $4 trillion, some of the other creditors of the U.S. include the Republic of Ireland, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, India, Turkey, South Korea, Norway, France and Israel.

I don't know how much cause it is not mentioned in the article, only mentions that we do owe Israel money.

Considering the fact we have a psycho running Iran, whom is trying to get nuclear weapons (and would probably use them at the first opportunity), Iran is our issue regardless of Israel.

Heck the Saudis told the Israelis that they would conveinently have their air defense down for maintainence if the Israelis choose to go after the Iranian nuclear sites. Wouldn't surprise me if the Saudi government would let the Israelis use Saudi Airfields under the table to take out Iranian nuclear facilities. The Saudis may not care for the Israelis but they don't want a lunatic having nuclear weapons, whom may be insane enough to also use them on Mecca.

What the 294 million non-jews get is the benefit of partial access to the jewish trade network that is set across the globe. That in itself is worth tossing a few billion a year their way.

Strategically the US gets a legal sea and land access to the middle east that would otherwise be shut off by arab nations. This means any serious conflict that might take place in the middle east will see the US forces landing through Israel and using it as a launching point for operations. If Israel was not there the entire middle east and its vital resources would not almost immune to any military pressure the US could apply to secure them.

And yes, the two things I mentioned above combine into one answer: access to resources. Its the name of the game.
