Due to gross short sighted negligence human kind is on the verge of destroying life on earth as we know it. We've poisoned the oceans, irradiated wildlife, clear cut mass sections of irreplaceable biospheres and the worst part is we are continuing to do so at an accelerating rate.
Billions is spent on distracting and indoctrinating the unwashed masses to blind them from these real truths as an elite few literally sell out on everything in an orgy of unsatiated greed. They have it down to a science keeping the populous asleep in their little fairytale reality. The typical first world lifestyle is only even possible by profiting from the raping and pillaging of the earth and the exploitation of people born into the third world, we all have blood on our hands.
I see why eastern philosophies idealize non materialism, mankind can never be satisfied with what we have, we will just blindly follow our base instincts of acquiring more and more until we wipe ourselves out.
Unfortunately the most cunning will always rise to the top positions, descend deeper and deeper into corruption and spread destruction and misery as they amass unneeded amounts of wealth and resources. Human kind is so deeply flawed that we are incapable of not destroying everything including ourselves.
And no I'm not claiming to be personally exempt from this. I do make more efforts than most but I'm by no means a Buddhist monk.

Reality is great, huh?

If the human race was more united then it is now bickering with one another, this would be apparent issue that could be dealt with.

We really need a common enemy... :chin:

If humanity was more united, power would be even more consolidated amongst a smaller number of leaders.
Or even (yikes) one leader.
New world order, anyone?

Ah yes, it is coming ... and then all power truly will be "even more consolidated amongst a smaller number of leaders."

Look at the bright side.

About 30 years after man is gone, the Earth will have largely recovered from us ever being here.

Yes, in a different direction. Life will continue to exist.
It's happened before and it will happen again.

Basically if the monarchies of old had access to current technology, globalization, and modern mind manipulation techniques. The new nobility will be global and will cement it's power deeply.

The problem comes from random breeding and letting people be free to pop out kids and raise them unfortunately.

You need the population to have a homogenous worldview and understanding of the world, that won't happen if you give people all sorts of freedom to be irresponsible and delude themselves.

The problem is it's human beings don't like being told they suck and that their ideas and behavior is garbage. They will defend their ignorance to the death because most of humanity is not even capable of analyzing the soundness of their own thoughts.

Compared to the Siberian and Deccan Traps we have hardly made a dent.

Which is precisely why we need different cultures, different perspectives, different means of understanding the world. We analyze and correct each other; but impose uniformity and that's no longer possible.

Problem is we have the weaponry to make those traps seem quaint and it gets worse as science progresses.

The amount of energy released in the eruptions of the Siberian and Deccan traps makes our nuclear arsenals in total less than pop guns. A good F-4 tornado releases more energy than the Russian 100 megaton H-bomb. Way more.

I think you are overreacting.

We are very smart apes.

If what you propose is true, we will be faced with tougher problems to solve in the future.

And when that happens, some smart apes will find a way to keep on keeping on.

No, we arent f*cked. The next generation or two after we are dead are f*cked.

Wait until we drink up all the fossil water and the glacier ice has melted. Good times.

And there is always the question - uniformity with *whom*? Who gets to play queen of the hive and on what merits?
