A direct quote from the person in question:

Quote:
"I, the Lord God of heaven, ask the courts to cease the prosecution of my holy ways," Jeffs said. "There will be a judgment against all those who prosecute the church. ... I shall let all people know of your unjust ways. I will bring sickness and death. Let this cease."

Who's he kidding? He isn't God! And what loving god would threaten people with "Obey me or die", anyway?

Read the article; it's another instance of Christians claiming that whatever atrocity they commit "In the Name of God" is not a sin, and should not be punishable under secular law.

How about Yaweh, God of the Jews who loves to be obeyed and loved.

Oh, golly! I had forgotten how much the god of the Jews loved the Canaanites, especially during the time of Joshua!

See what I don't get, is why people would imagine an egotistical, vengeful, cruel god, as their 'father', rather than a loving, caring God. doesnt make any sense at all to me. i think the global elite created our God.

A "Global Elite" that goes back a few thousand years. This "Wrathful and Vengeance-Seeking God" concept is not a recent development.

As long as they keep making video games, lattes, international food availability, and standard of living in general better they'll keep taming God more and more. If we have a huge plummet of financial health all over the world - God might become a bit more vengeful again.

What denomination is this guy? He sounds kind of like a wack job who shouldn't be taken seriously.

That and he has no power to bring sickness and death - he should know that. Now, if that quote was somehow manipulated or distorted before Fnord found it and the guy said "It will bring sickness and death" that would be a much different ballgame and one could evaluate the merit of his claims on the grounds of the activity's own natural consequences.

He's the leader of an LDS spinoff cult, on trial for child rape and facilitating child rape.

Warren Steed Jeffs is the current president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - a "Mormon". I have said before that Mormons are not real Christians, and have been roundly criticized for doing so. With that in mind, it is safe to state that he is a "Christian" religious leader, and that he is calling for the deaths of all those who oppose him.

I have yet to read an article featuring any other religious leader denouncing Mr. Jeffs for his words or actions. By their silence, they grant their approval.

He's supposed to descend on the Olivette and split the hill about four different ways. Whoever missed that about him or the hordes of the antichrists army storming Jerusalem was really asleep at the wheel.

Wait. You think that Mormons aren't really Christians, and these guys are a spinoff of Mormons, yet you think it's perfectly reasonable to call this guy a Christian?

Seriously, though, silence =/= approval.

Ah, yes - Mormons, especially fringe ones, "are" Christians, and the Bahai types "are" Muslims and Buddhists "are:" Hindus - and Catholics "are" Jews.

I don't know who rebuked Fnord for saying Mormons are not Christians, but it for sure wasn't yrs trly.

Be that as it may -

In case nobody has noticed, jerks abound.

And wherever we stand on the Mormons = Christians qiuestion, the fact is that you will find people who claim to be real live born again Christians who say wrong and stupid and evil and disgusting things.

WHICH of course means that all Christians are wrong and stupid and evil and disgusting.

--------------

We got that message. Why not post a story on an intelligent, enlightened, humanitarian, admirable atheist that will prove every atheist is intelligent, enlightened, humanitarian, and admirable?
