Quote:
"As a communist I don’t believe in heaven or the Bible but as a scientist I now believe in hell," said Dr. Azzacove. "Needless to say we were shocked to make such a discovery. But we know what we saw and we know what we heard. And we are absolutely convinced that we drilled through the gates of Hell!"

I just heard about the the Siberian hell voices from a friend. Does anyone know what the truth about it is?

Personally, I think its too good to believe. Either the scientists were trying to convert people to religion by saying they heard voices or they just heard things under there that sounded like voices. I don't even think a microphone would have survived that temperatures but even if it did how sure can they be it was human souls or the like they heard underneath?

Scientists are neutral toward religion. Nor would soul voices point one way or the other. Not that anyone cares.

Snopes thoroughly debunks the claim in their article The Well to Hell. (<-- Link)

When something like this becomes wildly popular, people have a tendency to look at the claims rather than reality.

Then again, some fools will believe anything, as long as there is lack of proof against it.

I meant they were trying to get atheists to believe in religion or god.

I meant the men that claimed they were scientists in that story. Not scientists in general.

True that!

sounds to me and my wife that it's a distorted recording of a crowd at a concert or some angry gathering. I was playing it and was thinking that and she spoke up and said what I was thinking.
