It can be very cool, and informative (don't remember Anatolian coins, but do remember someone posting about Arabian peninsula coins at the putative time of Mohammed that was interesting).

But it does go through cycles of being more vitriolic than other times. And can still be that at the drop of hat.

But if you visit "Loath and hating" coming back here to PPR can seem like a meditation retreat. :lol:

Just skimming through this crappy section of the forum reveals a whole bunch of pompous pricks who seem to have nothing better to do with their time than jerk themselves off trying to sound intellectual. If you're hellbent
on being the smartest person in the world and making everyone hate you then it's a great part of the forum.

"Cancer" is a bad metaphor because it implies that it spreads. The rancor on PPR doesn't seem to spread elsewhere. In fact if anything it may draw off venom from the rest of the forum.
