I think Feynman summed it up quite nicely.

Wasn't Feynman something? In addition to being one of the greatest physicists, he was one of the great teachers of physics of all time.

UFO's =/= 'flying saucers'

That is true. The minute you say something IS a flying saucer, you have identified it.

Isn't it enough to admire all of the pretty lights in the sky without having to imagine that they are controlled by extraterrestrial aliens?

What does that have to do with anything?

And that 'Feynman' person is a complete idiot. People of his sort disgust me. Not that his 'antagonist' was putting it particularly well, either.

Sure. Most likely it's all natural, man made, or intentional government psyops.

But if some were cases of alien visitors I admit they have me beat. I'm not equipped to accept it without more evidence so they'll have me fooled forever.

One of the top ten physicists of the 20 th century. And a Nobel Lauriate. Hardly and idiot. In any case he was much smarter than you ever were or will be.

Because Beauty_Pact says so ... DUH!

Seriously, Richard P. Feynman, scientist, teacher, raconteur, and musician, assisted in the development of the atomic bomb, expanded the understanding of quantum electrodynamics, translated Mayan hieroglyphics, and cut to the heart of the Challenger disaster.

Other details of his life can be found all over the Internet:

Quote:
Dr. Richard P. Feynman, Ph.D

Born: May 11, 1918, in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, U.S.

Died: February 15, 1988 (aged 69), in Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Residence: United States

Nationality: American

Fields: Physics

Institutions: Manhattan Project, Cornell University, California Institute of Technology

Alma mater: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Bachelor of Sciences Degree; Princeton University, Ph.D.

Known for: Feynman diagrams, Feynman point, Feynman–Kac formula, Wheeler–Feynman absorber theory, Feynman sprinkler, Feynman Long Division Puzzles, Hellmann–Feynman theorem, Feynman slash notation, Feynman parametrization, Sticky bead argument, One-electron universe, Quantum cellular automata

Influences: Paul Dirac

Notable awards: Albert Einstein Award (1954), E. O. Lawrence Award (1962), Nobel Prize in Physics (1965), Oersted Medal (1972), National Medal of Science (1979)

I have to wonder ... what is the Curriculum Vitae of Beauty_Pact compared to that of one of the greatest scientific minds of the 20th century?

I think Feynman is an idiot to people who confuse sophistication with intelligence.

Do you mean "Sophistication" as in being narcissistic, egocentric, and fixated on the emission of bodily fluids?

Or do you mean "Sophistication" as in the process or result of becoming cultured, knowledgeable, and/or disillusioned?

They're both parts of the same thing. What I mean is people who show off their intelligence unnecessarily to present themselves as more intelligent then they really are. I am talking about academic hubris. This idea that people see themselves as being right or superior to others because of a degree, or status of nobility - or because of their own percieved "intelligence".

I think people ought to be judged on the merit of their work, and not because society, or some award or degree dictates that they be treated in a certain way.

The problem I have with this idea of sophistication is it's really superficial. It's the culture of trying to impress upon through knowledge or mannurisms. I think knowledge ought to be expressed because of the intrinsic love of the knowledge itself and not because you are trying to impress others. That's what sophistication is all about, trying to impress people.

No, that's affectation and pretense. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary real sophistication is...

Merriam-Webster wrote:
Definition of SOPHISTICATION
1a : the use of sophistry : sophistic reasoning b : sophism, quibble
2: the process or result of becoming cultured, knowledgeable, or disillusioned; especially : cultivation, urbanity
3: the process or result of becoming more complex, developed, or subtle

Furthermore, Feynman was one of the most genuine and unpretentious people I ever met (back in 1987). He was also one of the most cultured, knowledgeable, and perceptive people ever to receive a Nobel Prize. It was he who cut through all the bullsnot during the investigation of the Challenger disaster and give a simple demonstration of his claim involving a surgical clamp, a piece of gasket material, and a pitcher of ice-water. With that one simple demonstration, he blew away all pretense and illusion surrounding the incident, and exposed the indifference with which the NASA bureaucracy regarded the lives of its astronauts.

No, any criticism of Dr. Feynman can only be explained by an utter lack of sophistication on the part of the critic.
