I watched some Utube videos that said that the reason we have so much intertainment is that the government deliberately wants people to be stupid, in order for them to be easilly controlled. For example, they showed a statement, signed in 1948, where American government said that they want to destroy Soviet Union from within by sending them entertainment and movies and stuff. Also in other videos I was watching them saying how Americans want to similarly make their own population stupid since "thinkers" are more likely to oppose the government.

Now, none of these videos talk about aspies at all. So now comes my own idea: could it be that aspies are victims of the same thing? After all, NT-s don't like aspies because they think too much. Now, could it be that if it wasn't for the governments that tries to stupify NT-s, then perhaps NT-s would have LIKED aspies for this very thing? But the GOVERNMENTS view people like aspies to be a threat since aspies, being "thinkers" are likely to oppose them. But governments don't target aspies themselves. Instead, they put entertainment material that conveys that thinkers are "not cool enough", "not macho enough" and so forth. As a result, they get NT-s to do the work FOR them. NT-s, having no idea that they were brainwashed, dismiss aspies "because they aren't cool enough". As a result, the self esteem of aspies goes down which keeps them focused on their own problems and, therefore, they will be kept OUT of interfering with governments?

Well, the 1948 video wouldn't have mentioned anything about Aspies because Dr. Hans Asperger was only a few years into his research, and it wouldn't be till decades later that Americans would even know what Asperger's Syndrome was.
Well, while most conspiracy theories are without merit, it is true that the current crop of Republican presidential hopefuls mostly seem to be promoting their lack of intellectual credentials, and even promote the idea that to be smart makes you an elitist, which is supposedly a bad thing. The only one who takes pride in having brains, and takes the others to task for their ignorant dismissal of science is John Huntsman, and sadly enough, he's way behind the pack. So, is spreading stupidity part of some grand conspiracy? I don't know about that, but idiots like Perry and Bachmann certainly are dumbing down to appeal to a certain demographic of voters who seem to fear science, and see the arts as effeminate. And to be sure, people who lack respect for learning are more likely to be mislead than those who embrace intellectuality.

You misunderstood what I was saying. There is no "1948 video"; there is a 2011 video ABOUT 1948. The only reason it doesn't mention Asperger is simply because the author of the video never been thinking about mental issues in general (they weren't talking about schizophrenia or bipolar either). They were merely talking about "smart NT-s" vs "dumb NT-s". It is my own idea to apply what they said to aspies.

I think that video misrepresented the 1948 program to you. The goal wasn't to make the Soviets stupider, but to use film and the arts to demonstrate the "superior freedom" they would enjoy under a capitalist democracy. It was part of a psyops technique that would later develop into leaflet dropping and other techniques when applied to later conflicts, and it was the beginning of the idea that American soldiers would also be ambassadors of our culture abroad.

How is this an NT/aspies issue???? Not all "thinkers" are aspies and vice versa, and I'm sure "thinkers" can appreciate some light entertainment, or else they'd be miserable. Oh you conspiricy theorists and your funny ways.
And the only "NT/aspie" issue that even exists is aload of whiney aspies crying about the NTs being mean. Bleh.

While I agree about the reality of dumbing-down in modern society and how it makes learning seem "uncool", I don't think that governments, if they thought about it, would view aspies as much of a threat to the status quo.
The trend in the Western world today, whether by accident or design, it towards the breaking down of old collective forces such as nation, family and religion. Aspies, being individualistic, are relatively unlikely to want to oppose these trends, or to be skilled in organizing some sort of collective resistance if they wanted to. But unfortunately atomised individualists leave themselves more vulnerable to exploitation by other collective forces that emerge in the "new order".

However, the question of how aspies were treated in times past is interesting. I don't know the answer. Perhaps back when manners were more formal a greater proportion managed to pass as normal.

Maybe Aspies had tried to pass as "normal." Others, I suspect, were regarded village idiots. And some ended up famous, as Albert Einstein, or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Or others at least were able to ply their trade or art in obscurity during their lifetime, such as H.P. Lovecraft, or Robert E. Howard, or Vincent Van Gough.

That makes more sense than the conspiracy theory.

While I don't like Perry and am iffy about Bachmann, your comments are inaccurate. There is not a scientific consensus concerning Global Warming, and it is not settled, science is not a democracy, you can't make something true by voting on it, Global Warming either exists or doesn't, it is either caused by man or it isn't. To throw this back in your face, I would argue that you are also preaching junk science.

To be honest with you, when I wrote that post, I was actually thinking about the validity of evolution and vaccinations - two subjects which scientists absolutely have consensus on. Though on the subject of global warming; I believe the science is there to support it.

so a minority of oil-bought pseudo-scientists cynically holding out makes it "junk-science"
How about their views on evolution? I guess the jury is still out on that one too.
so what is real incontrovertible science?
Name me a view and I will give you a list of cranks that appose it (some of them tenured).

On global warming, there is some evidence to refute it as well, so it is not settled. As to the HPV vaccine, unless the school curriculum involved mandatory sexual intercourse, there was really no way for this virus to be spread around. As to the HPV vaccine causing brain damage so could have vaccine's mixed up or was given inaccurate information. However, the old polio vaccine actually temporarily partially paralyzed me for a while because I had a reaction to it (probably due to an inactive ingrediant).

Well, I'm certainly happy you're no longer paralyzed. But I don't buy for a second that the HPV virus had caused brain damage in anyone. The woman who allegedly told Bachmann how her daughter was turned ret*d by the vaccine has since failed to reappear, and so I have to assume that she in fact is fictional - a product of Senator Bachmann's own machinations. Otherwise, I suspect we'd have people coming out of the woodwork telling how their children were maimed.
And as JacobVirgil had stated; the credentials, and motives of the anti-global warming scientists are suspect. Show me a scientist who's not on the payroll of pollution spewing industry, and I may take that charge seriously.

Uh, maybe if individuals were to engage in voluntary coitus...
