I've been very slightly watching this on the news and I thought I'd spout some ill-informed, bigoted bile about it.

I've never been to Egypt in my whole life, yet I feel sorry for them at this moment. They're about to turn the clock back centuries by choosing this murderous ideology. I've not met very many Egyptians but the ones I have met seemed nice enough and were much like ourselves. I gather that Egypt is a country of big differences of political opinion, with many there favouring some form of real freedom for themselves and future generations but they seem outweighed by murderous religious totalitarians. I worry for the future of their country, although I was certainly heartened to see pictures of Egyptians voting more out of love for their country than anything else and looked so grateful that they could do so, even if the elections themselves look tainted - good for them.

If nothing else, a Muslim Brotherhood victory spells certain death for their tourism industry.

I wish Egypt well although I worry for their future (and many times more so for the Coptic Christians, who are currently being murdered on a frighteningly regular basis), Arab spring or no Arab spring. I see an inevitable slide into the abyss though and a lot of pain for a lot of people.

Comments?

Neither am I. I'm worried because religious totalitarians will sweep to power - this is bad in any country and in any religion - Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh et al.

What's this about the military? Why are they a problem? Is the military basically the old regime coming back?

nah
the military should simply be neutral and i think there is a large chance they are not,
if a group of people then suddenly find themselves blocked from the voting booth then there would be no one to help them but themselves.

We can't do anything if 70% of Egyptians want Islamist rulers, that's their majority's will.

The more important question is: In what way the Islamists will rule? and what will be their policies toward other countries?

If that's a real majority then that's democracy... it's a hard fact to take though, especially because of what will happen afterwards.

True. Israel will be the big question I suppose.

I can't see them wanting the likes of Sharm el-Sheikh to thrive though.

When my vote is every time among the >10% in my district (where I vote) then I think I am already very used to such hard facts.

The Future Movement sound OK-ish from what the wiki article says.

Same here. My party gets less than 6% of the vote here. That said, the failure of my party to win isn't anywhere near as devastating as might be the case in Lebanon.

ahh yes, it does, but I was born in Tyr (my origin city) and I vote there where Amal/Hezbollah is the strongest alliance.

Well, I guess they'll get to see if tyranny of the majority is any better than plain old tyranny.

Ah-ha! I see - it's the same deal but in an appealling new shape and pretty colour!

Also, we have tyranny here in the EU too. It's just not as talked about usually.

Only two colors: black and green.
