:( That was the best file sharing site. Free to use, supported resumption of broken downloads. Sad day.

it only shows that there's really no need for SOPA or PIPA…. there are already tools enough to stop piracy and protect IP...

In fact, considering that MU was taken down without a trial. This shows that the current state of law is already awfully biased in favor of copyright cartels. We need to improve legislation to make it easier to share in the web.

You know, I wouldn't have minded. But the thing is, I HAD SO MANY DOWNLOADS I PUT OFF, and now they're gone. At least I downloaded one gig this week, by sheer luck.

It makes me mad that this happened just today. Today is thursday, I was supposed to watch 30 Rock and Parks and rec tonight. Now, I know that in reality there are 300 other sites that will hold the new episodes, but MU doesn't make you use captchas and allows resume. This will cause me annoyances.

Ha, so true. But imagine how nightmarish it'll be should they pass. Think this is bad, this is quite "nice" compared to what those bills would allow.

But yeah, this news sucks. :(

well they are all paying for it as we speak,

tried accessing justice.gov?

been down for some 80 minutes and counting

same goes for RIAA, universal and a few other sites,

(not that the loss of a webpage is serious but it does show a powerfull image)

No way, I bet the feds are just making an example out of megaupload to tell us what's to come once SOPA gets signed

My read is the other way around; Obama is worried about Hollywood cutting off it's support now that SOPA and PIPA are going down in flames while he sits on the fence, so he's trying to signal to them that he is serious about intellectual property rights by playing up this bust.

Looks like SOPA and PIPA are already being enforced without being passed.

That is going to be first to go, but the next one will be going after forums and Social Networking sites, that also means in video games, stuff like fonts from Video games would also be the target of this Republican enforced law that will soon mean our freedoms are slowly going away, but I am sure this is just the base of the case, they pass new laws that will control other freedoms and pratices that will be forbidden in the United States.

I don't get why they need to shut filesharing sites down, if not all the files people put up there is commercially available stuff. Can't the sites just filter which content gets uploaded?

Personally, I'd be super pissed if I had legitimate files on there and now lost access to all of them right now.

they try to constantly, many artists dont care, its the middle men that do so enforcement can be quite lacking.
