It seems that a lot of PPR's Canadian based issue threads fall, with few views, pretty quickly. It might have something to do with the low amount of Canadians on this sub-forum coupled by the fact that a lot of people seem to think it's morally wrong to have an opinion about public issues in other countries. What are other potential causes?

Well, its not limited to Canadian political topics. Other countries tend to get the same treatment. Most Americans do not tend to know much about our politics, or at least, not enough to contribute to any sort of discussion. There do not seem to be any Canadian conservatives to argue with so most of our threads tend to preach to the choir

There's a few people who've said they're Conservative Party of Canada members on WP, some even spoke of planning to run for office. For some reason, however, they tend to avoid PPR.

Most Conservatives do not like to defend their viewpoints since many of them are not arrived at rationally. Since one is expected to defend what they say here, those unwilling or unable to do this tend to avoid the area

I used to work in a call center for the conservatives doing polls and voter ID, I even did some fundraising.
I felt so dirty!

I know one person in my life who is an admitted CCRAP voter. When I ask him what good his party has *ever* done for the country he gets this mealy mouthed look and avoids the question. I hope someday, someone will give me an answer. At least the US Republican party has Dwight Eisenhower and getting rid of slavery to its credit

No wonder Canada-centric threads get no love, we need more topics like this covered.

I actually find Canadian politics a lot more interesting than American ones. Things are more interesting when Parliament contains 5 parties, rather than the 2 (remarkably similar) parties that they have in the USA.

But yeah, we rarely ave any disagreement on our threads. Everyone seems to be NDP or a left-leaning Liberal. There might be one or two Bloc voters but I've never heard them argue over separatism, so that hasn't been an issue. And then there's me, the token Green, but they are sufficiently similar to the NDP in basic goals (if not the approach) that there isn't a whole lot to argue about.

^I have tried having dialogue with the only separatist I know of on this site, and it was completely futile. Its almost impossible to reason with these people. I have tried through much of my life, I'm afraid. The only difference is here I'm not likely to be physically assaulted

Do it!

You guys have to have more hope to speak of at this point than we do....that is unless your gov't decides to shut down oil production in Alberta to spur a fledgling green auto industry...

More pressing would be Harper's attempts to eliminate any vestiges of privacy in Canadian's lives. Or that he acts more like an American colonial governor than the leader of our country. That him and his party are doing their best to make our country more like yours... You were saying about hope? :P

Believe me, they are going way too far the other way. We have very poor environmental standards on the oil and the current government seems to be putting oil development ahead of all other priorities. The problem is, it has been shown that for every job created in the oil industry, a job is lost somewhere else in Canada. It's called Dutch Disease. Not to mention that our current government is terrible and the Prime Minister has near absolute power. So it feels like the things which I like about Canada, which I felt set us apart, are being slowly (or not so slowly) dismantled by Our Dear Leader. [I am using that title for him satirically...mostly]

I heard the reason Harper started wearing glasses is to hide his cold, dead eyes.
I'm not even kidding.
