Once you peel back the strange language in which the Toa is expressed there are some signs of plain old good sense.

Human wisdom among the various cultures is remarkably similar, considering the cultural and linguistic deifferences.

Yes, although it is one of the more minor religions in China these days. That seems ironic to me.

Hi,
I keep a copy of the Tao te Ching next to my desk where I do most of my thinking and writing.
The sayings can seam difficult to understand but that just makes me try harder.
The idea of Tao seams to be to find the most effective and appropriate way to look at and understand things so that instead of fighting against things you find ways to go with them.

There is a nice Russian proverb that is like that idea, 'Do not be breaking your shin on a stool that is not in your way'.

Taoism has been worth exploring for me. :)

The philosophy is pretty much summed up in the single Taoist aphorism "The reason grass covers the world is because it bends to the wind.".

Taoism is a very appealing philosophy. I am not interested in it when it's used in a religious sense (except out of intellectual curiosity), but the philosophy feels much closer to me personally than most Western thought.

Taoism is the one asia religion that really interests me the most then again so does.

1. Confucianism.
2. Shinto.
3. Chan Buddhism.

I have a lot of respect and love for Asian culture their religions appeal to me from a intellectual curiosity point of view.

I like the idea of being an unimportant part of the world, just passing through, only touching with the lightest touch in the right place at the right time in the hope of making things better.

Often, once I have really thought about something that was a problem for me, especially with dealing with people I figured out that what I thought needed fixing was actually ok and all I had to do was not try so hard.

The Taoism you are asking about is not the true Taoism. The named cannot be what the unnamed isn't. Asking of a thing unknown limits one's understanding of it.

Anyway...Yeah, Taoism is quite interesting, it takes an extra bit of effort for a western language user to get into because of the numerous translations and peculiar sentence structuring, but...once you start getting into the core ideas presented in the Tao te Ching (Dao De Jing, The Laozi etc), its rather enlightening and holds a good bit of wisdom. If nothing else it has good material to get you thinking on your own, the spark of interesting thoughts, so to speak.
