In local politics, a stuffed coyotte could win an election. I don't see how someone with Asperger's syndrome couldn't.

On the other hand, I don't see why someone with Asperger's syndrome would want to succeed in local politics. It looks like a good way to be trapped into years of meaningless smalltalk and receptions.

Actually, I've had my suspicions about Richard Nixon, Al Gore, and Joe Biden belonging to our tribe, for some time now.

Thomas Jefferson has long been suspected to at least have Aspie-like traits.

I'd say no since an aspie would be viewed as too stiff and out of touch by the general public to garner popular support but Mitt Romney seems to be doing okay. So maybe?

He was prime minister between 2002 and 2010. He wasn't directly elected, but he was the leader of a popular party that was always allowed to lead negotiations until 2010. Look at the way he speaks, the way he's always looking down at the table instead of the reporter, especially in the beginning and his monotonous voice. His nickname was 'Harry Potter'. We've got ourselves a winner!

Without naming any names, I expect many many people with Aspergers have been elected into office.

People are forgetting about partisan politics. For example, my dad is fond of saying that in our riding a blue (Conservative) dog could win. My riding always votes Conservative (seriously, every time since Confederation, except for the one time Conservative and Alliance split the vote so that the LIberals snuck up the middle). The guy who currently is in office is utterly useless and doesn't do anything, so if he can win I don't see why someone with AS couldn't.

yes if they claim and have support that they believe in God. Atheism is a mortal wound in politics. Don't believe it? try running for any position as a Proud Godless American.. see how far you get.

Depends what the office is, I imagine major campaign tours (for President or Prime Minister etc) in the modern era would be basically impossible for most aspies to handle. There probably have been aspies in office in the past, but campaigning was different.

The increase in media coverage will also hinder the election of people on the spectrum. Increased filming of the potential candidates will capture them being 'abnormal' more often.

Not only "could" and Aspie win a local election, I think it is a dead certainty that Aspies have won them.
