I read that after the article was published, they let him have communion.

Even then, how can we overcome the prejudice we face?

The boy's parents said that the church lied when they said that they let the boy receive communion. They said that the church never explicitly told them that and that they are just trying to cover their butts.

Basically, the Church can't decide what the boy's relationship is with God. In any kind of ambiguous situation, someone should still take communion and trust in the Grace of God.

I know an Autistic guy at my parish who started out as nonverbal, but now he can talk, work, has a girlfriend, and is a candlebearer. Even if this boy does not develop communication abilities, the Cathlic Church can't exclude him.

I think that every member of that church should be given communion whether they're able to speak or not. I'm also sure that boy is able to tell right from wrong. Just because someone can't use their words does not mean they can't think.
