Hi,

A friend pointed me to this thread. Be warned it is 2 years old, 435+ pages long and counting.

http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthre ... t=45427%2F

Basically they outline the Earth is flat due to 3 testable factors. Before we go into the discussion of gravity and other basic sciences that would smash this thread they have been brought up very early on and dismissed as cop-outs and whatnot.

I have to say this thread hurts my head so so much. You don't have to agree, but I thought I'd throw this out there for discussion if not for sheets and giggles. Anything you lovely lot would like to share?

Landover is a parody. It is not the real opinions of people.

Ah, wow. I feel dumb LOL

Shame really it would have been very funny if it wasn't a parody if also very sad.
Guess we can let this thread die now

THATS a parody if ever seen. :)

The funniest thing about fundamentalist religion is that their real beliefs are so bizarre and out of touch with demonstrable reality that the original poster's error in thinking the Landover site was for real is quite understandable. There's something called Poe's Law in Usenet or internet forums that says without a winky or smiley emoticon to indicate the author's intent, it is difficult to distinguish any parodies of fundamentalism from the real thing.

For nearly half of the adults in the USA to have serious doubts whether or not evolution happens is just as ridiculous and just as wrong as if half the adults insisted the earth is flat in spite of all evidence to the contrary. The Landover web site really is not exaggerating how silly fundies are at all.

Most aspies appear to believe that environmental factors such as avoiding toxic and harmful practises and substances, have little effect on autism's expression, potential comorbids, ones suffering and/or joy levels.

Most people think astrology is bunk!

Most people are caught in a flat earth nightmare [not authentic to them] similar to a cattle stampede

What do you mean by bunk?

I fail to see how the position of celestial bodies at the time of your birth could affect your personality at all.

They can't. It is all hokum and balderdash. All you need are two individuals born within a minute of each other at the same time and place who turn out differently to completely falsify this underlying assumption of astrology.

Of course the earth is flat!
Otherwise we'd slide off and wind up in HELL!
:P

One evangelical clergyman insisted hell is in the center of the earth.

That position is similar to the notion that Lucifer and Ha-satan ( book of job for those looking) are one and the same person.

Or more so that hell is a firey place, the bible never describes it in this way.

Both positions are neophytic and the sign of a person whos not read the texts properly.

The center of the earth thing is a fairly common belief with the evangelical types.
I had to give some rationale for the earth being flat.......

I hope you're just joking about that last part.
