I was told on reddit that this cartoon was not racist.
Those guys are not entirely trustworthy on this subject so I ask y'all to steer me straight.

I am going to use a link rather than a picture to prevent the replication of the image and to protect
those how do not want to see such things.

Italians are a race? I can see why they would be offended, but I don't think "racist" is the correct term

I see where you guys are going with this but
since race is mostly a social construct designing one that excludes people from Italy
from humanity is racial not just ethnic.

I don't know, but I laughed and then felt pretty guilty.

That cartoon does not draw any distinction between alien invaders and immigrants that show up at the airport or border with their paperwork in order.

I think it might ,the word W.O.P. means without papers. A good portion of the Italian Immigrants were what you call Illegal. The Italian Mexican Immigrant crime rate was also higher then the present Mexican Immigrant one.

This generations Mexicans are next Generations Italians.
Not dimes worth of difference between them.
Both are Catholic, Hard Working and Good cooks.

You could argue that it's racist based on the assumption that the two circled comments are meant literally. If that assumption is correct, then yes, it's thoroughly racist.

I think the circled comments aren't meant to be taken literally, since the heads next to them appear to be caricatures, and since the message of the circled comments clashes with the stuff above it. I think the talking heads are meant to be parodies of racists, and that the cartoonist is trying to get you to laugh at the silly racists.

It doesn't seem particularly funny to me, but I can't see why anyone would feel bad about it if they did find it funny.

If you think its racist then you're missing the point of the cartoon.

Two prominent anti immigrations guys are both themselves children of immigrants so they are both hypocrits.

A generation ago Italians were the "wetbacks".
Both the justice and the sheriff are the children of victims of the anti immigration bigotry of that time and yet they exhibit anti immigration bigotry now. Or so the cartoon supposes. So the cartoon is giving them a taste of thier own medicine.

^^this^^

Yes, in a way, it's racist - but that's because it's supposed to be. The message, essentially, is that if you didn't like being the victim of anti-immigration views, you shouldn't now be turning around and holding those same views against anyone else

That was my take on it.
