What's your opinion on men traumatized in abusive relationships?

I am a feminist, a man and a victim of spousal abuse at the hands of a woman.
My first wife was emotionally and physically abusive I was diagnosed late with my Aspergers (I blame it on the fact that I am very good looking) and she did not have much patience with my quirks.
I had a hard time understanding that the things going on in my marriage were not typical I assumed that I like most men lived a life of quiet desperation. <--For 12 years 8O .

I would like to say I wised up and moved out but I didn't I was thrown out.
In the course of the events I discovered that my wife's behaviors were not typical.
I decided to date again having faith in Regression toward the mean and not
being a person who bases his actions on a single data point. Statistics won out (as they will)
and my current wife is wonderful understanding and pregnant.

So what I say about men who are victims of abuse?
I think everybody deserves to be with someone who loves them and that do abuse is acceptable.

You left out a few options, such as "Suck it down you manbitch" and "That's cute when you men try and think and stuff"

I am not sure if I can be considered a feminist. I am a feminist in the sense that I believe human race wont reach its top until men and women are considered equals: each one an equal part of a whole. But I am not a feminist in the sense that I do not hate men. I do not think men are the enemy. So I am as against men abuse as I am against women abuse. None should be allowed, tolerated or celebrated.

Not a good idea those ideas would be deemed sexist and would cause the thread to be locked. I do not condone sexism towards either gender.I have a feeling you must have been joking though.

It's not healthy for anyone to manipulate another person with violence or emotional sabotage. Women are more likely to sustain major physical damage when they're on the receiving end from a man, but that does not make other gender exchanges of this behavior 'all right.'

I'm so glad you made this thread. Men get abused in relationships too. Men, therefore, need male friends. It's harder to abuse a man who has backup.

^ one of the common techniques that abusers use on their victims is social isolation; it often occurs before the abuse begins, so the victim has no one to turn to once they realize that something is wrong.

I don't know if identify myself as feminist or not since I am male,I do believe women should be treated equally as men and with equal respect.I myself have also been a victim of an abusive relationship I occasionally still have traumatizing flashbacks because of it.My ex fiance was violent manipulative and controlling she abused me mentally and tormented me when I had meltdowns. One day I had a very bad meltdown and she continued to antagonise me to the point I attempted suicide. She laughed at me and told me I was pathetic as I slit my wrists. She also cheated on me with a 46 year old ex coke addict who is bipolar. She kept me from contacting my friends whenever she got abusive.

I'm a feminist. I grew up in a largely female family, which undoubtedly had an influence. The instinct came first, the thinking and reasoning later - same with my socialism.

I think any abusive relationship is a bad thing. Unfortunately, there are a quite a few f****d up people out there.

Feminism is about fairness, not revenge. *facepalm*

You are welcome and ill be sure to take that advice in case I ever get into another abusive relationship. Sure It is more common for women to be in abusive relationships but it does happen, me and JakobVirgil are proof of that.It is surprising the majority of people turn a blind eye to this kind of stuff. In my opinion abuse of either gender is unforgivable!

Certainly not, but right now for me it is a source of joy.

As a person in favor of complete gender equality, I believe the men who have been victims should have gotten angry and beaten their partner with a phone book. Little known fact, phone books do not leave marks, thus making it very hard to press assault charges.
