As you all know, Barrack Obama won the election of the United States of America on the 6th of November. He's socially libertarian and economically right-wing. Mitt Romney on the other hand, he's Authoritarian socially and economically right-wong. It's interesting, if you are from the US who did you vote for? And if you aren't from the US who would you have voted for? I would have voted for Obama.

Wow...that's kind of sad you think Obama is a social libertarian and economically right wing.

Really sad actually.

He's nowhere close to either of those.

No offense... but citations to build your case... and don't be so insulting when addressing someone.

I object to the commanding tone of your post, especially since you did not order Horizon987 to provide citations for his claims.

How sad ... how very, very sad ...

Fair Enough. I deal with people all day who have an idealized version of Obama that the facts just don't support. I meant no disrespect and apologize for any I did.

But I'm wondering if the OP meant liberal. Liberal and Libertarian are not interchangeable terms.

But since you ask, I'll share a few highlights.

During the 2nd Debate, Obama (and the Democratic party supports it) announced support for an Assault Weapons Ban. Libertarians believe strongly in the right to keep and bear arms.

Obama's health care law forces you to purchase health insurance of face a fine. Libertarians abhor such a government intrusion.

Obama signed the national defense authorization act, with a clause that allows the government to indefinitely detain US Citizens without trial. Libertarians abhor this, beyond all others.

Obama signed HR 347, limiting the right to protest at events he is attending. Libertarians believe in free assembly.

Obama has renewed the patriot act. Again, limits on freedom libertarians abhor.

Obama has attacked Libya. Libertarians believe in non-interventionist foreign policy.

Obama announced his support for gay marriage a day after 40% of WV Democrats nominated a felon in jail over Obama, despite his long record of believing marriage is one man one woman. Libertarians believe the government has no right to even perform marriages because they are religious in nature. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/20 ... -marriage/

Obama has not taken action to legalize weed, despite the NUMEROUS people who say "obama gonna legalize weed" his DOJ actually raided medical marijuana facilities in California. http://www.thomhartmann.com/forum/2012/ ... spensaries Libertarians believe that the government has no right to determine what you cannot put in your body.

The ACLU ranked Obama worse on freedoms than Gary Johnson, the libertarian candidate for president, and Ron Paul, the world's most famous libertarian. http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/ ... 436166.php

Economically, Obama's budgets favor higher taxes on the wealthy, more government spending and jobs, and fail to address a need to reform and simplify the tax code. Libertarians favor low taxes, private sector jobs, and simplified tax code, or an abolishment of income tax and replacement with a consumption tax.

With all that said, I will agree with you that the Mitt Romney has some major authoritarian issues as does the Republican party, but Obama is not a libertarian.

Here is a quick guide to what Libertarians stand for.

thats sort of true, however not all republicans are are pro life and not all democrats are pro choice.casey from pennsylvannia is a pro life democrat and many know republicans are pro choice.also in state legislatures there are many more pro life democrats.

in the early 90's NOW said the massachusetts state legislature as one of the most likely state assemblies to ban abortion even though they were almost all democrats.this is because of the amount of irish and italian catholics in mass and in mass goverment.in those days when the real capitol of massachusetts was the vatican many democrats were anti abortion.

you also see that in the south with southern baptist democrats who vote liberal on economic issues but conservative on social issues.many republicans vote consevative on the economy but are liberal socialy.

democrats vs. republican doesnt realy define where people stand on relationship, reproductive and sexual issues

The left does not believe in personal freedom beyond the sexual realm. Beyond abortion and gay marriage, the Right doesn't restrict anything you do other then what local populations dictate. If you don't like what they say, move to a province that allows it, but the preferences of one clan don't limit you in the next one as it does when a Liberal is in charge.

You cant just buy whatever car you want if it is a polluter, or smoke wherever you want or drink wherever you want. You can't go without healthcare if you don't want to pay for it... the human being is an entirely irrational creature that we technocrats have to think for because they know not what they do. You can't build your house in a way that is unappeasing to the eyes or do whatever you want with your property in many socialist places.

Personal freedom as a tenant of the left... wow.

The freedom to die in a hospital because you don't have the cash to pay the bill is no freedom at all.

Yes, he is economically rightwing. Romneycare National was a conservative Heritage Foundation plan & is to the far right of the healthcare systems of all other developed nations.

Obama's status as a social libertarian is more ambiguous, especially because of his militarism and civilian execution abroad. On domestic issues, particularly reproductive rights & voting rights, he's still more socially libertarian than his nearest competitor.

That was a really sad use of "really sad".

Obamacare is a fusion of various ideas. Some right, some left. In the primary Obama supported just subsidized insurance without a mandate. Hillary was for the mandate. Obama was later convinced to accept that too.

To pay for the subsidized care and other bits there are taxes targeting upper income people and certain high end transactions. So that part is more progressive. Al Franken, a lefty, then added in the bit about refunding premiums if the insurance companies don't spend 80-85% on care.
