When I was 11 years old I was repeatedly beaten with a cane by the headmaster of my school (in the UK) for not praying aloud to Jesus. Looks like I got off light:

How long have children got to suffer forceful and brutal attempts at religious indoctrination?

I have no argument against what you say. None at all.

I don't think I need to make my presence felt in this thread any further - everyone knows my opinion on religion's use of violence and indoctrination whether it be Christianity (Christianity is soaked in violence), Islam or any other tin-pot cult. TallyMan, you have my full support.

Followers tend to convolute the messages of people like Jesus Christ. These headmasters are simply followers who know not what they do. The mother is same only more extreme.

Hey, I just noticed something 8O.

Proverbs 23:13 (KJV):

"Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die."

After a painstakingly careful empirical peer/meta/double-blind (blatant lie) review of the content of the OP, I reach the following conclusion (significant at the 5σ level):

The Bible is:

By the power of Samuel Johnson, I Refute It Thus.

We Don't need no education.....
We don't need no, thought control.....
No dark sarcasm, in the classroom...
Teachers! Leave those kids alone!
All in all, your just another brick in the wall..

TallyMan, I would've done the same thing and would be debating your position to, had I was treated like that.
You have to do what you have to do and I respect you for it.

Best Regards,

Jake

Particularly teachers in Catholic boarding schools in the 1950s/1960s/1970s.

Many people don't think Jesus is worth worshipping if people aren't killed in his name... the more beaten to death in his name, the better, that's what they think.

Would you starve to death if you had been beaten for refusing to eat broccoli? Really sorry about the experience though.

With the thread topic title I wondered if this about religions that really are peaceful.

I can only guess that if there was one it would be some obscure nature religion.

Some potential actual candidates:

Jainism
Baha'i
Quakers

I defy you to read the entire theravada buddhist canon (which fills about 3 book shelves) and find one passage that promotes killing.

Was it a government-run school?

I don't think it matters. It was his mother (who has a very un-Islamic name, by the way) who beat him to death.

The religion of peace marches on.

If you are referring to my experience, yes it was a state run school.
