So if the AR wasn't even used to kill children, why the hell is DiFi trying to ban them.? Even if it was used, I would still be against the ban. An AWB already exist here in California. I have a few reasons to leave CA and that is one of them. Why spread it to 45 other states? I knew this from the very beginning.

I agree. There should be a handgun ban instead, as these were the weapons Lanza *actually* used.

Incompetent Feds. Stop harassing AR owners.

Actually Connecticut already has an assault weapon ban as well.

And the official story right now is that the kids were killed by a .22 caliber rifle, which evidently wasn't an "assault weapon" under Connecticut law.

Yeah, but .22's can legally become "assault weapons", though.....

The goal is ALL guns. Just because they screech about "assault weapons" now that's not the end of it.
I can assure you of that.

From someone who wanted a sniper rifle just yesterday.

The story has been so doctored I doubt anybody will ever know what really happened. I'm not even sure how many kids were really killed. Sandy Hook is nothing more than a new excuse to push the same old agenda of proven ineffective policies even when they don't have anything to do with the incident.

I agree with you there. I'm just pointing out that an "assault weapon" ban is a stupid solution, given that Connecticut had one and it didn't prevent the shooting.

The right way to go is to get rid of "gun free zones" and allow teachers who are interested and competent to carry concealed. If the federal government wants to help, it should use its commerce powers to legalize carrying concealed on any road used for interstate commerce.

Yes, and if the people ever wake up and realize that it's gun laws, not the lack of them, that enable unnecessary deaths we'll all be better off.
Not gonna happen, though.... :(

Eh, if he used a Civil War era Henry .45 Colt (Uberti clone), they'd just be calling for a ban on all arms that can fire more than one round per reload. Same with any lever, bolt, revolving or pump gun. Same with a 10/22 .22LR semi-auto or Remington 7400/750 and whatnot (purely civil semi-autos); not just "military" pattern ones.

If he used a double barrel shotgun, you'd be hearing almost nothing regarding firearms. Gee, I wonder why that is?

But anyway, the latest news is that he used a semi-auto AR-15 in .223. The ear plugs, the smoke filling the corridors, the fairly devastating wounds when hitting bone (shot off jaws and whatnot), the amount of rounds fired in the time span, the amount of hits per person (fairly small wounds due to rounds passing through small bodies), and whatnot, does point to some form of small bore centerfire autoloading rifle. Handguns usually don't inflict wounds such as the aforementioned one when hitting bone (you need a high velocity expanding bullet for that).

If he used a katana? Well, that'd be interesting to see the reaction of people. Not many people are fans of Iaido and such, and mainly collectors purchase katanas.

The control freaks want to exercise power over the citizens.

The people are getting pissed off at the powerful, and the American (insert season here) is nigh, so they are trying to protect themselves for as long as they can.

I love Iaido, it amuses me that the Japanese devoted an entire art just to drawing the sword. I try to incorporate some of the principles into my drawing and re-holstering practice, and I feel that some of the lessons do translate between the sword and gun disciplines.

Because martial law will soon be declared (and be called "Freedom Law" or something absurd like that) when the currency devalues and we start printing trillion dollar notes.

Ironically, highly accurate and powerful long range rifles (see: scoped deer bolt guns in .243 Winchester and over; semi and lever too, but most are bolt guns) will be the firearm that will strike fear in the hearts of the government side. Not an AR or AK.

It's the only firearm I'd fear in a civil war. Death from every blade of grass and all that.

There'll be no civil war. Just arresting people.

Assassinations will probably go down. I'd expect to see lone wolf terrorism in the least once arrests and the odd home slash AR owner doesn't roll over and gets killed by the police. From there, it could go anywhere.

I did it for a bit several years ago (longer than that actually; over a decade). Moved onto Kenjutsu so I could bang sticks (Bokkens) with others. Gave that up when I moved into the middle of nowhere, bought my first shotgun and never looked back. :)

I can't say I utilized anything from it for my pistol drawing and shooting at the same time (I was in the suburbs at this time). :) Though I can see a couple of moves working well when someone is almost on top of you; like using your off-hand elbow or palm instead of the hilt (I'll use English) as you spring into the attacker from the sitting position (they liked to kneel in Japan as you can move quickly from that position, but you don't see many chairs and whatnot around that allow such, but you can push up from the sitting position on a chair easily enough to create the same effect), striking up at their jaw and knocking them back, and then plugging them a few times with your strong hand and its pistol instead of slicing them in half.

In my IDPA days, I just worked on the draw to be as smooth as possible (no CCW here); safety reasons. Used a Colt 1911 (Series 70) and Glock 21.

Got my swords still.
