A while ago I was reading about veils and I realized that they aren't just for women. I have proof.

In past posts I pointed out that the veil isn't just for Muslims but this truly changes everything. I have also read in the past that some people wear veils because they don't want people judging their appearance. Veils aren't always a religious thing.

If people - male or female - want people to stop judging their looks then they should wear a veil and quit complaining.

Then they would be judged for wearing a veil. Everybody would think they were strange, so they would have two strikes against them.

I'd like to wear an I Dream Of Jeannie veil.

To be honest, I think the only way to get people to stop judging you by your looks is to get extremely wealthy. It's even made Bill Gates look attractive.

In this context, Religion tries to impose a veil to women with the purpose of hiding women beauty = staying loyal to the women's men. To me, there's a subliminal message behind this and that is: "Religion doesn't want women to be judged, so they are using veils." As if Religion was trying to hide ugliness from people.

And people say that wealth isn't everything!

Headcoverings are also used for prayer. In some religions both men and women cover their heads for prayer while in others, only women do so. The Christian women I've met who wear their headcoverings all the time say that it's because they are supposed to cover their heads during prayer and to pray without ceasing, so they always wear a covering. The Catholic church used to mandate that women cover their heads when they are near the Real Presence. This means during Mass or when there is a consecrated host in the tabernacle. You know its there by the little candle burning in front of it. After Vatican II this was changed and lots of women stopped wearing the mantillas. I wear one. I like it. If I go to Mass I'm going to wear a long black lace mantilla, not because I think I should but because I think it's pretty and I like tradition. I used to put the little white chapel caps on my girls when they went to Mass and my daughter had one in her desk at school for the Friday school Mass.

Yet they think people won't judge them if they wear a black bag over their heads with a little postbox slit for the eyes. It's like me thinking that I will wear a balaclava because I don't want people to look at me and judge me.

Strange people.

Then they will get thought of as variously a religious freak, an armed robber/terrorist/thug, and/or people who have something to hide.

People will judge other people no matter what they do. If you want to be thought of negatively, wearing a black sack is a good way of going about it.

It is a good idea to cover your head, neck and mouth if you live in an area with frequent dust storms.

If you would like to wear a veil and wander about outside why don't you try it out?

Never seen that myself.

I was talking about the Tuareg men in the OP.

Tuareg men always cover their faces. I once saw someone at the demonstration in Tuareg costume. He helped bring the riot squad upon us later on...

There may be a good reason to cover your face if you live in an area with sandstorms. Just as it's a good idea to cover your face with a mask if you're a surgeon.

Outside specific reasons for covering your face, though, it's not necessary and in many societies is simply divisive. Hence my Bradford quip.
