I would be tempted to say "let him die" if he's over 18. If he's of sound mind and if he knows what he's doing, then frankly he should be quite free to see through the consequences of his religion-fuelled stupidity.

If, on the other hand, his parents are actually coercing him to reject blood, then that's another matter altogether.

What do others think?

He's 17. Old enough to know what he's doing. If he was 8, or 10, then it would be different, but he's not.

If he is under 18 his medical treatment should be decided by doctors.

He's mature enough. If he wants to question his religious beliefs and take them for granted in this situation, fine. It's his life, you know.

Yes. The alternative is to deny him any treatment whatsoever.

The JWs are false prophets, having misinterpreted the Bible to incite fear and doubt in the minds of those they wish to convert.

It wouldn't take a genius to fairly assume that the JWs have also misinterpreted the Bible to maintain that fear and doubt in the minds of their members and keep them ignorant.

Fearful, ignorant people are the most common victims of cult mind-control techniques.

Either force the kid to receive the transfusion, or kick him to the curb.

I'm not so sure. I believe adults should be able to refuse any kind of treatment, even if they are doing it because they are brainwashed by a crazy cult. Those parents should be ashamed of themselves.

£50 says they're immensely proud of themselves and their son. They're quite willing to let him die.

They can go to Hell.

I thought it was the Christian Scientists that denied medical treatments. I guess there are others.

He is 17,let him deny it and die. Sounds like natural selection at work.

If he knows what he's doing, then he should take the consequences. That way, he can't say he wasn't warned.

The parents should be allowed to make the decision, not the state. His rights are being violated; even if he's nuts.
