Hi,

Like perhaps many of you, I struggle with categorizing/defining my faith as one single religion.
The problem with this is that it prevents me from joining an established group of people (mosque, temple, synagogue, church, etc.) because members are expected to consider that that way is the only way; whereas I believe that they are ALL one and the same way.
In my opinion, what is important is putting God first and sacrificing the concept of "self".

Today I did so online research so that I may be able to find my niche where I can join other people.
In the process I found the 'Spiritual Belief System Selector Quiz' Image:

My results were: Sikhism (100%)
Reform Judaism (94%)
Orthodox Quaker - Religious Society of Friends (88%)
Various others < 85%

I was VERY suprised by my result as I know nothing about Sikhism.

Why not have a go at doing the test yourself, and post your results.

To use the same reporting formula (top 3), I get these results:

  1. Secular Humanism (100%)
  2. Unitarian Universalism (92%)
  3. Liberal Quakers - Religious Society of Friends (78%) / Non-theist (78%) ... a tie
  4. Other: < 67%.

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Liberal Quakers - Religious Society of Friends (86%)
3. Taoism (83%)
4. New Age (77%)
5. Neo-Pagan (73%)
6. Mahayana Buddhism (70%)
7. Secular Humanism (68%)
8. New Thought (65%)
9. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (60%)
10. Hinduism (55%)
11. Scientology (52%)
12. Christian Science Church of Christ, Scientist (51%)
13. Theravada Buddhism (51%)
14. Reform Judaism (50%)

They gave me loads more percentages (all under 50) for lots of other groups but these are my above 50% groups. I don't think I agree with most of them.

No, I'm not converting to Sikhism because of this quiz.

I generally consider myself most closely aligned to Mahayana Buddhism/Zen (which is influenced by Taoism,) but I guess in terms of social issues (except abortion) and the whole 'warrior for righteousness' mindset, I'm quite close to Sikhism. I'm too sceptical to actually be a Sikh, though.

I define my beliefs mostly as Tao-Pagan, but this is an interesting result.

I don't really understand about religion, but I thought I'd give it a whirl anyway.

Ok so I am without spirituality, have no belief in god or the supernatural, believe that only natural forces are at work etc.

Yet somehow I have 63% affinity with the Liberal Christian Church. In fact the only religious group that I scored 0% was Jehovah Witness, Heck there is even a 33% affinity with Scientology. Somehow I am only 82% aligned as a Non-Theist!

Sorry OP the Spirituality calculator you have found is seriously flawed.

None of these tests are very accurate in my experience. I just find it interesting in a sociological sense. What the author believes defines each path, how they describe them, and the percentages.

It's also worth noting that you can be non-theist and still hold beliefs that align with different aspects of different paths.

Uh, did anyone else get 27 results on their list? Not that helpful for narrowing things down, lol. Anyway, I pretty much knew my #1 result would be what it was.

1. Orthodox Quaker - Religious Society of Friends (100%)
2. Liberal Quakers - Religious Society of Friends (96%)
3. Seventh Day Adventist (90%)
4. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (88%)
5. Hinduism (87%)
6. Taoism (87%)
7. Neo-Pagan (86%)
8. Unitarian Universalism (85%)
9. Mainline - Conservative Christian Protestant (81%)
10. Mahayana Buddhism (75%)
