If you honestly believe if the EDL will go away after the hypothetical 'defeat' of hardline Islam, then more fool you. Contrary to their website, sweeping bigotry can be heard against all muslims on their rallies. The inevitable conclusion of such hatred is that it eventually moves onto another target group, because England will always need 'defending' from someone, don'cha know.
I sincerely believe if it weren't the muslims it would be someone else.
These right wing self appointed 'defence' groups don't simply dissapear after the conquest of their enemies. Here in Northern Ireland, the loyalist paramilitaries are as strong as ever, even in the wake of the dismantlement of the IRA and long after republican activists have ceased to be a threat to protestant communities. The loyalists went through a period where they began attacking Romani immigrants. I see the EDL as being the closest English equivalent to that.
