Oh noes! The UK isn't doing too well either - we're much closer to America's life expectancy than we are to Japans...

Do remember we're talking about averages. If you take certain inner city places, you can get life expectancy averages well in middle age, on account of the high mortality rate for teenagers.

The rule is, don't cherry pick.

the point is, that NO PLACE in america should be allowed to be in this deteriorated state. america is NOT TAKING CARE of america! and anybody with any sense knows that if you don't take care of something it will eventually break down into disrepair and dysfunction and total catastrophic failure at some point.

It was a noble experiment. We had a good run!

the "noble" experiment doesn't have to end, but for the lack of a critical mass of people of good will.

I pray you don't look at how our test scores compare to the rest of the world....

Particularly those in Mississippi.

I think that, on a whole, greed and culture are two of the major causes for many of the issues that we face as a country.

And in some regions (most actually) American life expectancy is way higher than Haiti.

Here are some statistics for you to ponder.

by dint of that, the majority of US states fall below the bar. IMHO that is NOT world-class and not befitting us.

Maybe all the money we spend on the wars, foreign aid(especially military aid which goes mostly to Israel and Egypt), spying on its own citizens, imprisoning non-violent offenders for victimless crimes, bailing out corporate interests, etc could be more wisely spent here at home or better yet never stolen from the populace to begin with.

That is true. The non-white population of the U.S. is pulling the average down.

our choices as a nation, are either 1]fix our problems, or 2] say "to hell with 'em."

That sounds racist, but, when you consider the demographics of a lot of the really poor areas...

The life expectancy of Asian-Americans exceeds that of White Americans.

Don't see how that makes sense in the real world maybe in a fantasy world where one group of idiots ideologies is better but this is the real world where democrats are just as ignorant as republicans.
